The UCI School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and clinical practice through scholarly research, education, and high-quality clinical care. The School oversees the education and training of medical students and graduate students at the UCI School of Medicine. The school has various departments, ranging from basic science research to clinical medical and surgical specialties.
The Dean’s Office Finance Manager reports directly to the Director, School of Medicine Finance. The position serves as the lead Finance Manager for the Dean’s Office Business Units, Medical Education, Centers & Institutions varying in size and complexity and will be responsible for supporting accounting and FP&A services that will enable the departmental business partners and SOM leadership to make timely decisions and achieve desired financial results.
The position will play a key role in supporting the Dean’s Office annual budgeting process, financial quarterly forecast, financial plan variance analysis and special projects. S/he will analyze and summarize actual vs plan reporting and explain the underlying drivers. S/he will provide financial consulting and strategic support to the Dean’s Office senior leadership team. S/he will identify and propose process improvements and participate in reporting enhancements. S/he will manage the relationships with the Dean’s Office Business Units, Medication Education, Centers & Institutions and other stakeholders, to ensure a collaborative inter-departmental working environment with guidance from the Director, SOM Finance.
This position will play an essential role in most aspects of Dean’s Office financial planning and reporting including developing long-range financial planning processes. S/he will support the quarterly reporting publication that summarizes Dean’s Office commitments and available resources.

Required:
- Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
- Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
- Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
- Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to function as a member of a team.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
- BA/BS required
- 5-8 years of experience with BA/BS or equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
- MBA preferred
- CPA (inactive) preferred
