Our Transportation Safety Team provides training and customer service, maintains compliance with company policies and federal / state regulations, and ensures full investigation, review, and resolution recommendations related to accidents and citations.
As a Dedicated Driver Trainer, you'll provide frontline leadership to various Delivery Driver Trainers; you'll also assist in the development and review of Driver training programs, coordinate / deliver classroom and on-the-job training sessions, evaluate students throughout training, and mentor them in safety, compliance, and company culture.

We are looking for:
- advanced communication skills: ability to train, coach, and provide constructive feedback
- driver trainer certification; current MedCard and CDL (if training CDL drivers / ELDT)
What is the work?
Training / Coaching:
- Leads a team of Driver Trainers who provide a combination of classroom and behind the wheel training for CDL / Delivery Driver Trainee / Spotter / Relief Driver / Non-CDL compliance and safety
- Coordinates / administers classroom and OJT sessions, including those with safety training program content; coordinates training with other departments (e.g., CDL-New Driver Orientation, PTD DD, OSHA, HAZMAT, MHE, external road test)
- Trains using new / existing training materials (workbooks, manuals, visual aids, practical exercises, examinations, and hands-on skills presentations, etc.)
- Conducts over-the-road observations (backing, lane control, shifting patterns (as applicable), axle weights, etc.) with constructive coaching and re-training in deficiencies, as needed
- Re-enforces training to identify and assure safe operations of critical vehicle components during pre-trip, en route, and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Performs ride-a-longs with relief / CDL trainees, as needed
- Re-trains / re-certifies current Drivers (based on accidents and citations)
- Serves as a mentor in driving compliance goals
- Monitors individual progress; evaluates / grades students throughout the program; identifies gaps; makes recommendations on Partner progress; provides additional assistance as necessary
- Provides meaningful and timely feedback to trainees
- Facilitates / develops / reviews various training programs; ensures trainees have proper tools for the job
- Recommends practices, metrics to propose initiatives that improve training program efficiency and effectiveness
- Coordinates Driver Observations Program for Driver Trainers, Team Leaders, and Safety Leaders
- Supervises / administers Delivery Driver Trainee, Spotter, CDL, and Relief Driver training programs
- Implements / administers (and coordinates by terminal as necessary) training for new hire Delivery Driver Trainees, Activity Based Drivers, and current drivers and Leaders
- Maintains training records per regulatory requirements and H-E-B Policies
Safety / Compliance:
- Develops / executes Safety Campaigns
- Supports communication between terminals / departments by sharing and promoting safety information
- Updates maps to ensure Drivers have access to safest / most updated routes and updates to new Store construction
- Performs assessments / provides recommendations to resolve Store concerns
- Provides guidance on new Store / Warehouse construction to ensure Driver accessibility and safety
- Escalates safety-related Partner concerns to the appropriate Leader in a timely manner
- Participates in quarterly Safety meetings
What is your background?
- 8+ years of experience in CDL driving
- Experience training CDL drivers / ELDT
- Entry-level Driver Trainer certification
- Current MedCard and CDL
- Safe driving record of at least 785,000 consecutive miles
Do you have what it takes to be a fit as a Dedicated Driver Trainer for H-E-B Transportation?
- Extensive working knowledge of all legal and regulatory matters related to CMV operation
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Advanced verbal / written communication skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to provide precise instructions, and clear and effective feedback
- Ability to build relationships with trainees by tailoring training to their skill-level
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects / tasks with attention to detail
- Ability to instruct Partners how to operate a commercial motor vehicle
- Ability to comprehend general commercial vehicle mechanical component function and operation
- Successful completion of Train the Trainer courses for the DDT Program, 10-Hour OSHA, MHE, ADD, First Aid / CPR / AED, Fire Extinguisher, HazMat, and Defensive Driving training within 6 months of starting

- Obtain and maintain current / up to date MedCard and CDL; remain in compliance with all company, legal, and regulatory driver requirements (required)
- Obtain and maintain Entry-Level Driver Trainer certification in accordance with FMCSA requirements (required)
- Function in a fast-paced environment
- Work extended hours and multiple schedules, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays... remain willing to adjust work schedules to train trainees on all commodities, as well as make deliveries as business dictates
- Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods
- Regularly lift 20 lbs or more
