Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules tailored to residents with dementia.
- Ensure activities are varied, engaging, and suitable for different stages of dementia.
- Adapt activities to meet individual residents’ needs and preferences.
- Encourage and assist residents in participating in activities.
- Provide one-on-one support to residents who require additional assistance.
- Foster a positive and stimulating environment to enhance residents' well-being.
- Assess residents’ interests, abilities, and needs through observation and direct interaction.
- Document resident participation and responses to activities.
- Report any changes in residents' conditions to the Activities Director or nursing staff.
- Work closely with nursing staff, therapists, and other aides to coordinate care and activities.
- Communicate effectively with residents’ families to provide updates and receive input on care plans.
- Involve volunteers and train them to assist with activities.
- Ensure the safety of residents during activities by following established protocols and guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized activity area.
- Adhere to all nursing home policies, state regulations, and ethical standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and education related to dementia care and activity planning.
- Stay updated on best practices and new research in dementia care and therapeutic activities.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in dementia care or therapeutic recreation preferred.
- Previous experience working with elderly individuals, particularly those with dementia.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to improve the quality of life for residents with dementia.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to assist residents with mobility and participate in activities.
- The job may require standing, walking, and assisting residents for extended periods.
- May require occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on activity schedules.
Compensation:
- Rate will be commensurate with experience.
