About the Job
Some of what you'll be doing:
As Design Engineer II, Structural, you will be providing capability in design development, technical system ownership and management. You will support any or all operating divisions as well as all phases of infrastructure construction project development and facility operational use.
+ You will design and/or evaluate port facility and infrastructure systems under the guidance of a Professional Engineer to facilitate operations within the Port.
+ You will coordinate with other design team members, internal stakeholders, and consultants throughout design and construction phases on basic design elements.
+ You will provide assistance during the construction phase by reviewing submittals, Request for Information (RFIs), and other construction documentation with the support of the licensed designer.
+ You will provide experienced assistance with facilities and infrastructure engineering tasks as the owner's Representative for Waterfront divisions and others as required.
+ You will provide experienced support for site visits, assessments, data tracking, evaluations, and other technical system management.
+ You will support reviews of designs, evaluations, and reports created by outside consultants for small works or major works projects.
+ You will assist senior designers in developing scope, design and construction budgets, design and construction schedules, permitting requirements, and design fee estimates from project planning through project completion.
+ You will provide experienced support to the design team on a wide variety of design activities, including field inspections, asset management program activities, product selection, site visits, research, plan layouts, data entry, detailing, drawing annotation, drafting/modeling coordination, engineering/architectural modeling, process organization, process improvements, and code analysis.
Who you are:
+ Experienced – You have six (6) years of experience in engineering design. A bachelor’s degree in engineering may be substituted for four (4) years of experience.
+ Desired – We hope you have a bachelor's degree in engineering and an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation.

+ Technically Skilled – You have proficiency in use of drafting and/or modeling tools such as AutoCAD and Revit. You have proficiency in use of software to perform discipline specific analysis and calculations.
+ Highly Organized – You are detail-oriented and possess excellent data organization skills and can analyze patterns and trends. You can manage time, work on multiple tasks, and prioritize workload.
+ Expertise – You have knowledge of engineering/architectural design principles, practices and procedures. You also have knowledge of local city and state adopted codes, standards, and industry requirements and have knowledge of basic software systems and technical engineering/architecture software systems.
What else you need to know:
+ Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
+ Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
+ Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion with occasional exposure to all types of weather conditions during site visits and field work.
+ Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
+ Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
+ Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
+ Security Requirements – You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
+ Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
