Title: Designer – Men's Accessories
Reports to: Design Director
Overview: Manage seasonal product design execution to achieve overall creative and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Research seasonal accessory ideas, with a focus on socks, hats, belts, scarves and SLGs.
- Create organized presentation boards using sketches, images, materials, etc. to review with design director and cross functional teams.
- Present research and ideas to design leads and cross functional teams.
- Interpret direction and feedback from internal teams into new, brand appropriate product ideas.
- Create tech packs and handoffs, using Illustrator and Xcel, to bring these ideas to life.
- Manage timelines and calendar dates to ensure timely samples and maintain bulk delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with Merchandising, Production and Technical Design to achieve product execution and maintain design integrity.
- Conduct fittings.
- Develop and source materials and trims with suppliers and factories.
- Approval of lab dips and fabric/yarn submits.
- Travel for trade exhibitions, design research, and to supervise product development.
Qualifications
- Men’s Accessories Design experience preferred, but not necessary
- Experience creating technical sketches in Illustrator
- Ability to render ideas in Illustrator and Photoshop
- Understanding and interest in the J Crew brand and aesthetic
- Knowledge of leather/fabric/yarn
- Ability to interpret trend, historical and market research into brand appropriate product ideas
- Strong illustration/presentation skills
- Ability to organize design ideas into clear presentation boards aided with sketch, fabric and images.
- Ability to manage, coach and develop others
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal design team and cross functional partners.
- Self-Starter mentality with ability to start and complete tasks independently
- Detail oriented, good follow through
- Strong organizational, communication and written skills
- Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Degree or comparable experience in Design, with a preference for Men’s product design
