Job Overview:
The Dietetic Technician-Registered (DTR) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive nutritional care to patients. The primary responsibilities include completing nutrition assessments in accordance with guidelines, implementing and monitoring nutritional interventions as directed by Registered Dietitians (RDs), and estimating and documenting patients' nutritional intakes. The DTR will also educate patients and families about restricted diets and special formulas, and ensure accurate data entry and maintenance in the Food Processor system.
Key responsibilities include preparing and delivering enteral feeding orders, managing human milk inventory, and adhering to safety and infection control standards. The DTR is expected to actively participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities, maintain productivity documentation, and contribute to staff training. Collaboration with healthcare team members and maintaining professional development through ongoing education are also integral to this role.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's Degree in Nutrition or a related field from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) is required; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Experience: Prior work experience in a hospital setting or WIC program is preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Dietetic Technician-Registered (DTR) certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required within 9 months. Certification as a Lactation Consultant (CLC) and ServSafe Certification (SSC) are preferred.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of nutritional content and feeding practices, a commitment to confidentiality, and the ability to engage in continuous professional development. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to perform other duties as assigned.
