We are looking for a sharp, highly motivated Director of Data Science to join our team. This position will influence the organization, collaborating with executives, stakeholders, product, and engineering to help define the direction, priorities, processes, and best practices of the data science and analytics team. An ideal candidate is an individual who has a deep background in statistics, analysis, and experimental design, and can bring those skills to bear both directly and by mentoring others. A strong understanding and hands-on ability with data science technology and infrastructure is important as well. The ability to lead and collaborate with team members and stakeholders to direct and produce business impact is vital to this role.
What you'll do:
- Lead, manage, and inspire a team of data science engineers
- Help drive a data-first culture where data is leveraged in decision-making
- Hire, mentor, and grow a world-class data team
- Understand business, and technical requirements and set priorities
- Communicate Data Team goals, priorities, timelines, and obstacles to execs and other stakeholders.
- Directly contribute to team goals with 50-75% hands-on involvement
- Develop and codify processes and best practices for modeling, testing, and analytics
- Collaborate with the team and CTO to define and direct the technical strategy for the data science ecosystem
- Effectively balance short-term delivery with long-term direction and value
Who you are:
- 5+ years of relevant data science and analytics experience
- 3+ years of hiring and managing data scientists, analysts, and/or engineers
- Strong leadership skills - the ability to identify the best ideas, socialize them, and rally the team around them
- Demonstrated experience creating production ML pipelines (training, scoring, leveraging in real-time systems)
- Expert knowledge of modern machine learning algorithms (regression, classification, random forests, clustering, optimization, etc.) and statistical inference
- Deep understanding of Data Warehousing principles and practices
- Hands-on experience and expertise with Python Frameworks
- Experience with the AWS data ecosystem and technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong people management, mentoring, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, high-energy environment
Skills:
ML, Gen AI, NLP, LLM Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategies for ML modeling, LLM development, and fine-tuning.
- Set best practices and standards to enhance AI/ML model deployment and monitoring efficiency.
- Create roadmaps for NLP, LLM, and Gen AI model development.
Model Design and Development:
- Design and develop custom ML, Gen AI, NLP, and LLM models.
- Work on batch and stream processing-based AI/ML pipelines.
- Handle data ingestion, preprocessing, and search and retrieval
- Ensure end-to-end solutions meet technical and business requirements.
Collaboration and Leadership:
- Mentor junior team members.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of ML and data science efforts.
