Job Description:Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Director of Distribution Excellence to enhance and oversee our distribution network within a manufacturing environment. This role is integral in optimizing distribution processes, managing large-scale projects, and taking responsibility for the P&L of the distribution function. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in network optimization, project management, and financial stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Network Optimization:
- Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive distribution strategies to optimize our supply chain network, including warehousing, transportation, and inventory management.
- Efficiency Improvements: Conduct thorough analyses of the current distribution network to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. Develop initiatives to streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance service levels.
- Technology Integration: Leverage advanced technologies and data analytics to improve distribution processes and decision-making. Evaluate and implement distribution management systems (DMS) and warehouse management systems(WMS) to drive operational excellence.
Large-Scale Project Management:
- Project Planning and Execution: Lead and manage large-scale distribution projects, including network redesigns, technology upgrades, and facility expansions. Develop project plans, allocate resources, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and IT, to align distribution projects with overall business objectives and manufacturing schedules.
- Real Estate: Oversee and manage the acquisition, leasing, and optimization of properties for our large-scale distribution operations.
P&L Responsibility:
- Financial Management: Oversee the budget and financial performance of the
distribution function. Develop and manage budgets for distribution operations, including cost forecasting, expense management, and capital investments. - Profitability Analysis: Monitor and analyze P&L statements related to distribution activities. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement, and develop strategies to improve profitability.
- Performance Metrics: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the financial and operational performance of the distribution network. Use data-driven insights to drive decision-making and optimize financial outcomes.
Operational Excellence:
- Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance distribution processes, reduce lead times, and improve order fulfillment accuracy. Implement best practices and standardized procedures across the distribution network.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all building activities adhere to industry regulations, company policies, safety and security standards. Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience at a well-known leader in distribution (Walmart, Amazon, FedEx, UPS, etc.) with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Consulting experience in the distribution industry focusing on network optimization (Deloitte, McKinsey, or comparable).
- Proven track record in network optimization, including successful implementation of efficiency improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
- Extensive experience in managing large-scale distribution projects, including network redesigns and technology upgrades.
- Demonstrated P&L responsibility, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and performance management.
Skills:
- Strong expertise in distribution and logistics processes, including warehousing, transportation, and inventory management.
- Advanced knowledge of distribution and warehouse management systems (DMS and WMS).
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
- Exceptional financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets and analyzing financial performance.
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
