Our ideal candidate
The Director Enterprise Technology Data Engineering oversees the transformation of the Credit Union's Data Platform, collaborating with business units and stakeholders. This role leverages a banking ecosystem-based approach to define a robust data capability model. Responsible for creating next-gen data engineering and development platform capabilities, the Director will lead data integration projects and ensure data quality during mergers. They will communicate updates to executive management about trends and performance of data assets. This position is critical for ensuring seamless integration of data from merged entities, aligning with the organization's overall objectives during transitional phases.
A typical day might include the following
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; managing performance; rewarding and coaching associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Create data platform and data engineering strategy.
- Ensure that the organization has defined, identified, architected, and integrated the data required to deliver as per the data strategy.
- Lead the data team to build and deliver a highly robust and scalable data platform.
- Manage database administration, ETL, and business intelligence, data delivery for reporting and insights, and data engineering related efforts.
- Own the end-to-end data architecture and take it to the next-level of maturity.
- Maintain the data model and optimize for downstream and banking architecture needs.
- Maintain and improve the data model, architecture and data platform and ensure it's in compliance to Banking industry standards and guidelines.
- Develop and implement strategies for integrating data from different systems post-merger and ensure alignment of data models and structures across organizations.
- Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for data conversion projects.
- Establish and enforce data quality standards to ensure the integrity of merged data.
- Ensure top quality data is available for all stakeholders by adopting fast-paced, scalable, and continuously evolving data systems and processes.
- Work hand in hand with data stewards and Insight teams to build key data pipelines and platform processes and deploy models and implement orchestrations.
- Manage all infrastructure around the large volumes of data being collected by the organization.
- Work in a collaborative way to enable and drive adoption of DevOps, DataOps and other automation technologies.
- Promote technical excellence across the team and integrate best practice data engineering within the organization.
- Create data governance rigor by working with the data stewards.
- Establish guidelines and standards related to data dictionary, metadata, data extraction and load, data lineage, data movement, etc.
- Implement the necessary governance model (i.e. data access, data retention, disaster/recovery, data leverage, data reporting, etc.,) based on stakeholder requirements
- Work with the data stewards to define key business elements for data quality governance.
- Collaborate with the Insights, technology, information security, and business data stewards.
- Be in the forefront of innovation in the area of data to identify the next-best technology for the CU.
- Coach and mentor teammates to take them to the next level of excellence.
- Work with Enterprise Architect and CTO to integrate data across the channels, and leverage AI/ML for further optimization of overall portfolio.

Education
- High School Diploma Required
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science or information technology Required
- Master's Degree data science, data engineering & Analytics Preferred
Experience
- 10 to 15 years of similar or related experience information technology experience Required.
- 10 to 15 years of similar or related experience in managing and building data & analytics platforms, preferably in a financial institution Required.
- 8 to 10 years of similar or related experience managing engineering & science teams and working with cross functional teams Required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in leading highly skilled and motivated data engineers and Data/AI Architects. (High proficiency)
- Experience in building Data warehouse experience by leveraging Snowflake or similar platforms. (High proficiency)
- Experience in data management during mergers, including challenges and solutions with an understanding of the regulatory and compliance aspects related to data handling in mergers. (High proficiency)
- Experience in having built Data Integration and Analysis Systems (DIAS) in an industrial/enterprise environment. (High proficiency)
- Deep knowledge of the Microsoft Azure technology stack as it relates to Data and Insight (Azure SQL VMs, SQL Managed Instances, Azure DB, Data Lakes, Azure Synapse and Power BI, Azure Data Factory, etc.). (High proficiency)
- Proficiency in a scripting language (i.e. SQL, and Python). (High proficiency)
- Proficiency in designing and building API and API Consumption. (High proficiency)
- Familiarity with data visualizations tools such as PowerBI. (High proficiency)
- Proficiency in ETL/ELT tooling. Preferability by leveraging Informatica. (High proficiency)
- Experience with deploying infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines in an Agile way (High proficiency)
- Ability to lead on the appraisal of architectures as they relate to our requirements for Data and Insight solutions, including Cloud, Hybrid-Cloud and On-Premises based solutions and specific components and services within them. (High proficiency)
- Proven experience of architecting and deploying complex and scalable data pipelines, connecting diverse data sources to consolidated repositories. (High proficiency)
- Significant experience and expertise of data modelling approaches.
- Experience of designing and overseeing service management models as they relate to managed instances of our data platform and data-as-a-service solutions. (High proficiency)
- Experience of working with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data (High proficiency)
- Experience of architecting pipelines to support Machine Learning workloads (Medium proficiency)
- Experience of maintaining high levels of operational delivery. Being accountable and responsible to support the operational delivery of data for a wide range of use cases. Adhering to SLA's and Operational Level Agreements. Inspiring the teams to provide the highest level of quality to our customers. (High proficiency)
