Director, Health Information Technology (HIT) Strategy and Engagement
Location: Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote weekly)
Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our US Pain Business Unit and support our journey to bring new pain management treatment options to the market. The Director, HIT Strategy and Engagement will identify and drive the implementation of technology solutions to support the awareness, trial, and appropriate utilization of VX-548. This is a critical role as our team is preparing for potential commercialization of an investigational acute pain product, which, if approved, would be the first new mechanism of action in decades. This role will drive commercial excellence by deepening the understanding of the customer journey and associated touchpoints, providing strategic guidance to the therapeutic area (TA) teams, and creating more meaningful stakeholder engagements through HIT solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a landscape assessment focused on how HIT is leveraged in patient care delivery and the solutions used in market to support (i.e., patient screening and identification tools, clinical decision support)
- Create and deliver HIT-focused training to internal and field-based colleagues
- Engage with marketing and market access colleagues to understand the acute pain patient journey, gaps in care, and barriers to access for VX-548
- Identify opportunities to leverage HIT solutions to close gaps in care and improve access at launch
- Work with internal and external technology partners to design, pilot, and scale solutions
- Develop a long-term roadmap outlining the HIT capabilities necessary to support Vertex’s pain program
- Ensure roadmap is aligned to business priorities and contains commercial use cases
- Collaborate across the US Pain Business Unit with Market Access, Strategic Accounts, Commercial, Marketing, Contracting, Trade, Pricing, Legal, Compliance and other relevant support functions (e.g., Data, Technology and Engineering)
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- 12+ years of experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals in marketing, consulting or agency in, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
Required Skills
- Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team
- Experience defining and executing upon strategies with the proven ability to drive innovation approaches to maximize effectiveness
- Strong innovation skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and courage to challenge the status quo to develop innovative and focused approaches to enable launch through data and technology
- Ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch
- Analytical mindset, with ability to make strategic recommendations based on data and insights
- Role models high performing team behaviors, all in on team activities and setting the tone for accountability and engagement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive presence and strong MS office skills
Flex Designation: Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site Eligible
Flex Eligibility Status: In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
