This position is primarily accountable for the planning, implementation and operation of MyMichigan laboratory departments in order to meet the needs of the organization; Provides leadership and expertise in the management of the department; Has accountability for human resource management, financial management, and quality management for department and programs within responsibility in support of the mission, vision and strategic objectives of MyMichigan.
Responsibilities:(60%)*Direct regional standardization, optimization and implementation of clinical standards, workflows, and policies within new and existing platforms. Maintains fiscal responsibility for preparing and monitoring of all laboratories budget. Approves all expenditures, within established limits, including appropriate documentation.
(40%)*Develop long range plan for the system laboratory. Serve to maintain laboratory services in meeting CLIA and CAP requirements at all locations of service. Develop and monitors performance indicators/metrics for assigned departments and services. Support compliance efforts, reports and resolves areas of non-compliance and maintain confidentiality. Coordinates review of inventory and equipment including replacement or purchase of new, if warranted.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership development, oversees development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Coordinates meetings and committees related to the support of patient care and staff development.
In collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, develops and coordinates workgroups to address organizational goals.
Develop and monitors performance indicators/metrics for assigned departments/services.
Support MyMichigan compliance efforts, reports and resolves areas of non-compliance and maintain confidentiality.
Protects organizational assets and exhibits consistent application of personal/business ethics and integrity and facilitates excellent communication, internally and externally.
Evaluates business initiatives and recommends process/system redesign and new services.
Responsible for the oversight and performance of laboratory employees to deliver quality test results to physicians and patients.
Maintains College of American Pathologists (CAP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) standards and accreditation.
For Moderate complexity tests, this position may serve as the Technical Consultant (CLIA definition) or Technical Supervisor (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-42/chapter-IV/subchapter-G/part-493/subpart-M)
Certifications and Licensures:Credential:MT: Medical Technologist ASCP
Equivalent Experience: Medical Laboratory Scientist. MLS, ASCP required.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Three (3) years clinical laboratory experience and five (5) years management experience in a Healthcare System similar in size to MyMichigan Health required.
Leadership skills needed to effectively direct a group.
Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Knowledge of basic techniques in financial analysis.
Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
