Responsibilities:Job Summary / Purpose
This position serves as the leader of the Medical Oncology and Support Services departments, and provides daily leadership to all clinical ancillary and support services within the facility. This is accomplished through a blend of direct and matrix reporting relationships. The Director of Operations coordinates with ancillary and support leaders at the main hospital campus to ensure performance aligns with hospital policies and procedures, supporting safe patient care.
Responsible for quality, safety, service, growth strategy, employee relations, medical staff relations, community relations and financial oversight. Establishes controls, monitors organizational performance, and takes necessary corrective action. Responsible for the daily operations as well as all licensure and other regulatory requirements. Ensures all operating policies and procedures remain up to date and regulatory requirements are met.
This position has accountability for 24/7 facility operations and reports to the Market Director of Oncology Service Line.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Provides leadership to the clinical and operational areas of the Medical Oncology and Support Services departments. Demonstrates a commitment to a teamwork philosophy. Demonstrates positive problem-solving approach in resolving concerns or issues with team, customers, and/or medical staff.
- Plans and organizes the programs and operations for Medical Oncology and Support Services departments. Assists with business development and business growth, including development of annual business plans and capital needs. Provides analysis and recommendations.
- Establishes effective relationships with the medical staff to ensure that quality services are offered to the community. Facilitates the work of the medical staff to provide the services in implementing their requirements.
- Maintains the operations within the fiscal and productivity guidelines of the organization. Assists with establishing the annual capital and operations budget for the department based on corporate objectives. Maintains and monitors operating statistics for the facilities, adjusting staffing, supplies or capital expenditures to unit of service. Develops and implements cost containment measures yearly which result in financial benefit to the organization. Implements programs, projects or changes annually which promote productivity, enhance services, and/or increase staff awareness of the need to control health care costs.
- Provides effective leadership and personnel management to the organization. Ensures completion of all employee reports and records according to the established timeframes. Counsels and coaches management/staff to ensure quality of work and adherence to hospital policies and procedures and compliance with all federal and state regulations as demonstrated by absence of validated challenges.
- Contributes to the organization’s quality improvement activities and ensures compliance of all safety regulations and infection control policies through regular rounding in the facilities. Corrects all deficiencies reported by accreditation and regulatory agencies.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships in the professional and civic communities. Participates in community activities and professional organizations to promote the services, programs and mission of Saint Joseph.
- Serves as a leader and advocate for the patient experience. Ensures customer service standards are met in alignment with the organization’s mission and core values.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience | Sys/Div/Mkt/Local Manager – Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 3 years leadership experience OR minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline OR Master’s Degree and no experience |

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training | Must have critical thinking skills. Demonstrate ability to perform technical skills according to area of assignment. Computer management skills, and adequate conversational English. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in oncology health care administrative leadership level position. |
