JOB SUMMARY
Truvian is looking for a Director/Sr. Director Algorithms (onsite). You will lead the development and implementation of any embedded signal processing, assay data processing, assay calibration, and fault-detection algorithms required for the current multi-modal blood diagnostic platform and any future products within the Truvian portfolio. As an experienced algorithm leader specializing in machine learning, you will be pivotal in designing, developing, and implementing algorithms that drive our product to new heights. You will enable new insights through data on the product’s clinical and field performance, ensuring the platform is accurate and dependable. Your expertise will contribute to creating intelligent solutions that optimize outcomes, enhance user experiences, and generate impactful outcomes.
This is a key technical leadership role where the candidate will serve as an evangelist and critical contributor to developing compelling algorithm designs that support Truvian’s platforms. The role involves leading and implementing the architecture and design process, defining and executing the vision, and addressing relevant cross-cutting concerns that drive algorithm architecture for IVD applications. Additionally, the candidate will develop strategic algorithm roadmaps, manage and mentor a team of skilled scientists and engineers, and create innovative solutions that excite and satisfy our customers.

This range considers the factors considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience. Placement within the compensation range is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.

- Experience Leading and Managing Teams: Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams through the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including digital signal processing, algorithms engineering and architecture, design documentation, verification testing and reports, and data analytics in measurement systems.
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Proven skills in developing strategic plans, executing them, and monitoring the progress of architecture and design projects, focusing on continuous improvement and the iterative evolution of the platform.
- Industry Expertise: Possess industry-leading expertise in statistical estimation, joint probabilities, modeling, and machine learning methods to minimize errors and achieve optimal outcomes. Additionally, proficiency in data analytics across multiple signals and dependencies and experience in testing and launching IVD products are required.
- Technology Development and Commercial Strategy: Ability to drive technology development and influence commercial product strategy. Prior experience with the launch and support of IVD products is essential.
- Goal Management and Leadership: Proven skills in managing multiple goals and priorities, resource allocation, and experience leading a technical team of talented scientists and engineers. Strong leadership presence with a passion for motivating and inspiring others.
- Architecture and Prototyping: Responsible for developing architecture specifications, building architecture artifacts, and prototypes as needed to identify risks and effort while developing applications that utilize the architecture.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts, to define algorithm requirements and objectives.
- Algorithm Development: Research, design, and develop novel algorithms for various modalities, including microscopy and spectroscopy, using machine learning techniques such as neural networks, reinforcement learning, and clustering. Implement and optimize algorithms in programming languages like Python, C, or MATLAB, ensuring scalability, robustness, efficiency, and maintainability.
- Testing and Validation: Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of algorithms using real-world data, iterating as needed to enhance accuracy and performance. Stay current with machine learning and algorithm development advancements, integrating relevant methodologies into solutions.
- Technical Documentation: Contribute to technical documentation detailing algorithm specifications, usage instructions, and best practices for internal and external stakeholders.
- Integration and Code Quality: Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate developed algorithms into system architecture. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain code quality and consistency. Proactively troubleshoot and address issues related to algorithm performance and integration.
- Documentation and Operations: Accountable for creating and maintaining documentation for artifacts produced during the development lifecycle. Manage day-to-day departmental operations, including budgeting, staffing, designing critical features, overseeing team activities, and creating, reviewing, and approving design control deliverables.
- Quality System and Startup Mentality: Ensure the effectiveness of the Truvian Quality system. Demonstrate an initiative-taking attitude with a startup mentality, where no job is too small.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
- Proven experience (12 years) in developing algorithms, with a strong focus on machine learning techniques and applications.
- 12 years of experience developing algorithms and related architecture for on-market IVD products with hardware and software components.
- Demonstrated ability to turn theoretical concepts into practical, scalable algorithms that address real-world challenges.
- Experience with data preprocessing, cleaning, and analysis to ensure high-quality input for algorithm development.
- Strong critical thinking skills, able to approach complex problems creatively and analytically.
- You are an original thinker capable of building a new algorithm from scratch. Inverse problem-solving is necessary.
- Experience engineering metrics that allow automated Quality Control of algorithms, hardware, and samples.
- A deep understanding of mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra, probability theory, and statistics, is essential for developing and analyzing complex algorithms.
- Experience developing and optimizing diagnostic algorithms for disease detection, risk assessment, and prognosis. This includes knowledge of statistical models and machine learning techniques.
- Understanding the processes of algorithm validation and verification in a medical context, including test data selection and performance evaluation, is especially important.
- Must have a working knowledge of linear algebra and its applications, including SVD, PCA, PLS, and linear dimensionality reduction techniques. Great understanding of the principles/physics of spectroscopy is desired.
- Solid understanding of machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, MATLAB, and experience with relevant libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Demonstrated experience in developing algorithms for machine vision applications, including but not limited to image and video analysis, object detection, image segmentation, and feature extraction.
- Functional understanding of image preprocessing techniques, including image enhancement, filtering, noise reduction, and data augmentation, to ensure robust performance of machine vision algorithms. Solid understanding of decomposition and reconstruction using multiple domains such as frequency or parametric spaces.
- Direct experience in applying deep learning techniques, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and deep reinforcement learning, for solving computer vision challenges.
- Experience in data labeling and annotation processes, including labeling tools and frameworks, to create high-quality datasets for training and evaluating various models.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and clear articulation of algorithm concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong diligence and commitment to producing high-quality, well-documented code.
- Prior experience in IVD/Medical sector is necessary.
PREFERRED:
- Experience with defining requirements as they relate to algorithms and their limitations.
- Demonstrable experience with statistical analysis and design of experiments.
- It is highly recommended that you have a working knowledge of machine learning model training and management solutions like AWS SageMaker and/or Azure ML Studio.
- Physics or science background. Publications in relevant conferences or journals highlighting your expertise in algorithm development and machine learning. Patent references.
- Prior experience working on products that required approval from relevant notified bodies (CE, FDA, etc.).
