Director, Technical Support at Chaffey College

Situated on the ancestral homeland of the Tongva Peoples, Chaffey College is one of the oldest community colleges in California and serves a variety of communities, workforce partners, and students. The Director of Technical Support is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and integrity of the District’s critical desktop support equipment and systems.  This involves planning, managing, and directing the operations and activities of the Technical Support department including, but not limited to, instructional and administrative computer hardware and related equipment; technical support of the fire and life safety systems; managing instructional technology, including the design, selection, installation and support of smart-class technologies, A/V control systems, video conferencing systems, video recording, web-streaming, digital signage, multimedia, and related support.  This position is responsible for maintaining the district’s software inventory and overseeing the activities of the Information Technology Services help desk functions.   

• Oversee the design, selection, installation and support of instructional technology district-wide.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, supplies, software, parts, and tools.
• Manages the Information Technology Services Help Desk, including providing oversight of the Help Desk ticketing system, customer service, assignment and escalation of help desk requests; delegating installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of computer hardware and software components throughout the district
• Oversee the design, selection, installation, integration, maintenance, and upgrade of multimedia classroom computers, software, peripheral equipment, audiovisual equipment, cameras, and sound systems.
• Develop written plans and recommendations for desktop computer hardware/software components; develop specifications for desktop hardware and software components and maintenance contracts as needed. 
• Assist in the development and implementation of technological plans, policies, and procedures including, but not limited to, strategic technology plans, technology replacement plans, and disaster recovery/business continuity plans.
• Maintain equipment inventories, documentation, and ensure that all desktop equipment is maintained in proper working order.  
• Lead project teams to install, maintain, operate, and upgrade voice, video, data, and desktop hardware and software.
• Monitor projects to ensure completion in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with District technology standards.
• Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops to maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and to evaluate vendor products for potential use by the District.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all District departments to optimize working relationships and communication.
• Manage and develop the skills and competency of staff based on current needs as well as emerging technologies or business strategies needed to support all work initiatives.
• Fulfill department requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
• Supervise the training and evaluation of staff; interview and participate in selecting employees; orient, train, counsel, discipline and terminate personnel according to established policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business or a related field; two years of increasing responsibility with an Information Technology Services department; two years supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.

• Project management techniques in information systems.
• Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Selection, procurement, installation, troubleshooting and repair of computer hardware systems and software applications used by the District.
• Internet and electronic mail.

• Master’s degree in a related field and one year of information technology experience in an educational institution.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Positions in this classification may be required to work varied hours according to need.
 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time, 12-month position; Level III, Range 27 of the Management Personnel Plan with a starting monthly salary of $12,435. Effective date of employment will be as soon as a successful candidate is selected and a mutually agreed upon date is determined. Excellent benefits include: health care, dental program, and vision services for employees and eligible dependents; and retirement coverage through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).
 
Being able and ready to work onsite at a Chaffey facility or location is an essential function of this job. Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job.
