About the Job
NOW CFO is searching for a Director of Accounting and Finance to join my client's non-profit on a permanent basis! The Director of Accounting and Finance will be responsible for all aspects of the financial operations, recordkeeping, reporting, loan compliance, audit, and budget creation for the organization and all its properties. This person will also manage a team of individual contributors handling property accounting, audit, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions.
Compensation: $90K - $115K, depending on experience. Comprehensive benefits offered.
Location: Onsite in Denver, CO 80202
Responsibilities:
- Lead the budgeting, financial planning, and reporting processes to align with organizational goals.
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and grant management.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and non-profit standards.
- Ensure compliance with tax filings, audits, and regulatory requirements (e.g., IRS Form 990).
- Provide financial analysis and strategic advice to support the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
- Oversee cash flow management and ensure financial sustainability.
- Development of annual budgets for the non-profit and its properties.
- Manage HUD billing processes, including renewals and rent schedules and contracts.
- Manage systems like Yardi and Medicaid billing to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Respond to all internal and external audit requests and ensure compliance with tax requirements, renewals, and financial standing for 501(c)(3) status.
- Act as a financial advisor to leadership, providing insights on complex issues and ethical practices.
- Deliver specialized reports and analysis to support strategic planning, including business modeling for development, refinancing, and acquisitions.
- Oversee a team of finance professionals and support their growth and development.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in accounting or finance or related field. CPA preferred but not required.
- 7-10 years of accounting and finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Must have at least two years of non-profit accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards and reporting (GAAP, FASB, fund accounting).
- Self-starter and motivated with a strong sense of urgency and problem-solving capabilities.
