We are currently recruiting for a Director of Accounting & Finance to join our client’s team in Eugene, OR. As the Director of Accounting & Finance, you will manage and oversee the daily operational functions of the accounting department, provide information about all company activities to management, the CFO and Co-Presidents to assist in making economic decisions. You will partner with the CFO to lead the annual budgeting process and oversee the production of accurate and timely financial statements and other reporting that is in compliance with GAAP, other tax & accounting standards and all laws and regulations. This role maintains efficient accounting practices, programs and systems and a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to mitigate risk.
Essential Functions
· Manage recruitment, retention, performance, and compensation decisions for qualified staff, ensuring effective employee relations and problem resolution through communication and training.
· Ensure compliance with legal requirements, advising management on necessary actions and filing financial reports as needed.
· Analyze financial, sales, and performance data to measure productivity and identify areas for improvement or cost reduction.
· Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate entries, reconciliations, and internal controls to protect assets.
· Oversee the accounting department’s operations, including budgeting, expense control, and inventory integrity.
· Coordinate accounting filing systems and ensure compliance with record retention laws.
· Generate and analyze financial metrics, manage annual budget production, and report significant variances to the CFO.
· Communicate regularly with the CFO on major issues, special projects, and department planning.
· Serve as the main contact for external audits, providing necessary information and ensuring timely sales reporting.
· Maintain confidentiality of financial information and oversee departmental goals, training, and compliance.
· Promote workplace safety, support job training, and ensure reliable attendance.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or business administration or equivalent business experience.
· Experience managing teams and individuals; supervising, coaching, and developing staff.
· Must have experience in full cycle accounting, inventory procedures and knowledge of all accounting functions, including financial statement preparation in compliance with GAAP.
