Director of Classical Education and Development
Choice Schools Associated is seeking applications for a Director of Classical Education and Development. This position will provide leadership, coordination, and administrative support in the ongoing development, implementation, and administration of all phases of an Academy's curriculum cycle, teacher mentorship program, model-specific professional development, assessment support, and fidelity of the educational model.
Job Responsibilities:
- Creates and coordinates mentoring programs by model.
- Plans and implements training of teacher mentors and mentees and written in the mentor handbook.
- Provides resources and guidance to provide a supportive mentoring program.
- Supports teachers as they build out of the Individual Development Plan (IDP) within the evaluation process as needed.
- Conducts curriculum review cycles to ensure that all academies have access to a viable curriculum that is reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
- Collaborates with instructional leaders in each building, authorizer support teams, Hillsdale K-12 Education Office, and model experience teams to empower leaders and hold tier 1 instruction accountable.
- Utilizes the Hillsdale K-12 Curriculum for Hillsdale Member and Curriculum Schools.
- Supports the Superintendent with the Curriculum and Academic Components of Charter Contract Applications and Renewals, including but not limited to Hillsdale K-12 Curriculum renewals.
- Supports the MICIP process at each academy to ensure that the proper activities are listed and implemented.
- Observe in the classroom and provide feedback about instructional practices and curriculum fidelity as requested by the administrator.
- Regularly inspects and ensures compliance with established Child Study non-negotiables, including reviewing practices, documentation, and protocols to maintain high standards and promptly address discrepancies.
- Utilizes NWEA Map testing, local assessment, and state testing data as a driving force of academic decisions in the schools.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Meets state of Michigan certification requirements.
- Curriculum and Instruction experience.
- Successful experience as a teacher.
- Effective communicator in both oral and written form.
- Strong interpersonal skills and adept at establishing and maintaining good rapport and working relationships at all organizational levels.
- Highly organized.
- Extensive expertise and deep understanding of classical pedagogy
Desired Requirements
- Successful experience as a teacher or as an instructional leader.
- Previous experience in school leadership roles.
- Knowledge of Hillsdale K-12 Curriculum
Work Environment: Frequent travel throughout Michigan is required. Work is typically performed in a school or office setting; remote work is also permitted.
