About the Job
The Director of Site Engineering and GTO (Global Technology Organization) will provide leadership in the strategy, performance, and effectiveness of the overall Joliet Site and North America Engineering & Technical organizations. The successful candidate will lead Site and Corporate teams in areas of Engineering, Process Safety and Quality systems to achieve optimization by combining their knowledge and skills in process engineering, technology, and analytics. This individual will have leadership responsibility to work collaboratively throughout the organization to develop, implement and execute policies, procedures, and program initiatives to transform Engineering & process capabilities. In addition, they will lead the Joliet Site Engineering organization to optimize the critical assets across the Joliet Site and NA network.
This is a high-level professional role focused on planning, directing, and coordinating project initiatives of the GTO network to ensure effective execution and compliance with applicable system requirements and external standards. In addition, this individual will focus on transformation of process control, loss reduction, material efficiency and start-up of new product production at our blend manufacturing plant in Joliet, IL and will require 10-15% travel. This role will report directly to the Joliet Site Leader with a dotted lines to the NA Supply Chain VP’s of Engineering, Sustainability & Process Safety, and Quality.
The role is based on-site in Ecolab’s Joliet, IL facility.

What You Will Do
- Oversee the continued development and execution of the Joliet Engineering masterplan and organizational development journey through high-performing org (HPO) behavioral principles and total productive maintenance (TPM) strategies
- Develop strategy to ensure and continuously improve the effectiveness of the GTO at the Joliet Site, including structure, planning, execution of processes, development and monitoring of metrics (PDCA)
- Lead strategy for and manage key Engineering, Process Safety & Quality teams:
- Compliance team to ensure effective implementation of the NA GTO network in accordance with applicable standards and regulations
- Develop and maintain quality systems for functional compliance
- Execute reliability and capital strategy to optimize process capability for maximized throughput
Leadership: Define and promote a HPO mindset across the network while demonstrating effective change leadership
- Recruit, lead, develop, engage, and mentor organizational talent within the Joliet Site Engineering and NA GTO groups
- Ensure all processes, designs, manufacturing & operating procedures, methods, etc. all adhere to regulatory and site safety requirements
- Mentor, coach, and develop Operational and Engineering Leaders driving improvements to the manufacturing plant processes, procedures, products, and all aspects of the Engineering work processes
- Maintain and drive improvements in specifications for products and raw materials within Engineering design
- Direct, assist, and/or provide resources for troubleshooting issue resolution for Engineering, Sustainability & Process Safety, and Quality concerns
- Lead plant projects and initiatives including, but not limited to, cycle time improvement projects, process design support for capital projects, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in a technical discipline, Engineering preferred
- 5+ years of experience leading the deployment of process technology projects (new process/product introductions, quality improvements, capital project management, Lean Six Sigma, APQP, and portfolio management)
- 5+ years leadership of a product line in a manufacturing environment
- Experience and evidence of success driving reliability improvements and systems
- 5+ years of experience leading and developing direct reports
- 5+ years of experience in technology management role (supply chain engineering, process development, platform management, RD&E, Quality)
- Conversational English speaking and writing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Chemical Engineering or Chemistry background
- Advanced technical degree
- Prior experience in Supply Chain Manufacturing
- 10+ years of Prior experience manufacturing chemistries supporting blend and reaction processes and new product development
- MBA or equivalent
- Background in large project management and direct experience in developing financial justification for investments
- Experience managing technology for a commercial enterprise
- 8+ years of experience in a wide range of chemical processes
- 5+ years of experience in technology management role (supply chain engineering, process development, platform management, RD&E)
- 3+ years of experience leading the deployment of process technology projects in a manufacturing environment
- Significant experience with Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Methodologies (TPM)
