Door Technician - Locksmith - Bernalillo Public Schools

Job Title:  DOOR TECHNICIAN/LOCKSMITH 

Reports To:  Maintenance Supervisor

General Job Description:

Installs, maintains, and repairs door closers, panic bars, locks, and door hardware on district buildings and facilities. Oversees access for both electronic and key-entry systems while maintaining an accurate record of keys assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintain door closers, panic bars, and other door hardware districtwide.
2. Troubleshoot and repair doors to ensure smooth and effective operation.
3. Maintain an accurate inventory of key assignments. Works with staff to assign access or removal of access as needed.
4. Interpret Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the district's master key system while meeting requests.
5. Installs, services, and repairs various types of locks and security devices.
6. Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.
7. Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
8. Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.
9. Issues keys and maintains records of keys issued and returned.
10. Maintains records of work performed.
11. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
12. Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains both mechanical locking and electronic key card systems.
13. Stocks equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining required inventory levels.
14. Complete other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience maintaining door hardware systems.
3. Locksmith certification from a reputable organization.
4. Valid NM Driver’s License
5. Ability to pass a drug test

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs/ladders, reaching, squatting, kneeling, having full mobility, and moving furniture may be required, unless ADA accommodations have been mutually agreed on and does not create an undue hardship upon the district.

Safety and Health:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions (blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc.)

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.  After hours work may be required.  May work under stressful conditions on occasion.
