Driver / Vehicle & Equipment Cleaner
Position Title: Driver/Vehicle & Equipment Cleaner
Department: Transportation
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Classification: Classified Full-time Non-Exempt/Hourly
Contract Period: 12 Month (233 days with some variance depending on the year)
Compensation: Hourly ESP Salary Schedule

Position Summary
Work involves responsibility of refueling, cleaning, condition reporting, and mileage tracking of small vehicle fleet and lot, shop and wash bay cleanliness and order, restocking items and re-filling fluids, minor mechanic work, operation of CDL and non-CDL vehicles, compliance and documentation of state, federal and district regulations, policies, and procedures. Regular bus driving duties are a responsibility of this position, and is intended for a full-time substitute driver or assigned Route Operator position.
Position Responsibilities
Vehicle & Equipment Cleaner/Driver Responsibilities:
- Clean, fuel, and maintain the vehicle fleet and equipment. Return necessary forms, fuel cards and receipts to the Transportation Director, and completed defect reports of any noticed defects, deficiencies, and preventative maintenance. Performs work in a general shop environment or in the field.
- Manages trip forms and small vehicle schedule for pick up and return, compiles mileage into spreadsheet to track cost per cost center for accurate reporting and invoicing to activity groups
- Maintain, sweep and clean the wash bay’s floor. Maintain, clean, and refill/restock any missing items from Wash Bay stock, ensure all equipment is clean and in good working condition, and notify the supervisor regarding any inventory or equipment reorders/replacements.
- Perform snow related duties of clearing vehicles of snow in the small vehicle lot after every snowfall.
- Inspect activity vehicles maintenance and daily logs for accuracy and compliance, ensure washer fluid bottles are full and in good condition, request refills of DEF as needed, and other minor maintenance items as directed by mechanics.
- Ensure that cleaning machines and equipment operate properly; notifies supervisor of problems or when repairs are needed.
- Deep cleaning of activity and small vehicle fleet over the course of the summer break
- Assigned or covers routes and meets school bus driver responsibilities as outlined in the school bus driver job description
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of:
- Shop operations, policies and procedures
- Basic methods used to maintain inventory records
- Ability to:
- Make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and procedures
- Utilize computerized software
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with shop personnel, co-workers, and supervisors
- Perform tasks in an organized manner and with attention to details.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- CDL with airbrake, passenger, and school bus endorsements or ability to obtain within first 90 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Adequate amount of training and experience in vehicle and equipment cleaning, including the proper and safe use of custodial equipment and supplies- this may be substituted for relevant experience and training.
- Knowledge of shop operations, policies and procedures
- Ability to utilize computerized software
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Essential Physical Requirements
