Position Summary:
The EHS Continuous Improvement & Program Manager (EHS CI & Program Manager) is a member of the EHS Leadership Team that is essentially responsible for driving our proactive safety culture through promoting & facilitating employee engagement in achieving Quaker Houghton’s “Path to Zero” vision and the overall EHS strategy. This role will work with the EHS Team and other key stakeholders, along with external sources, to develop new & creative initiatives & programs that embodies the QH Live Safe core value and a relentless focus on our 10 Life Saving Rules. This will be accomplished through the formation of and communication with the Extended Safety Leaders Group. This person will work closely with the EHS Management Systems & Compliance leader to develop the functionality in DevonWay to support, track, and report on continuous improvement initiatives, along with support the Process Safety leader in promoting process safety requirements that encourage employee participation.
The EHS CI & Program Manager will identify, develop, analyze, and report on key performance indicators to find trends and causal factors impacting performance, both what’s working well and how we can improve. The data will also support the EHS Team and various QH functions in reporting EHS monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics. This person will also be the gatekeeper of all EHS policies & procedures, working to continuously improve the overall understanding and execution, through review, enhancement, communication, & training.
Accountabilities:
- Leading new continuous improvement initiatives that promote the Live Safe core value by increasing awareness, hazard recognition, and employee engagement:
- Coordinate a quarterly Life Saving Rules emphasis program,
- Improve the quality and participation in near miss & observation reporting, and Stop Work Authority actions,
- Develop, train, implement, track, and report on a proactive ergonomics program,
- Improve the quality of and participation in Job Task Risk Assessment program,
- Establish standards and facilitate initiatives to improve housekeeping and safer handling of materials,
- Work with EHS Management Systems & Compliance Sr Manager to continuously expand DW’s capabilities in supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensuring QH EHS policies & procedures are current with industry best practices and compliant with both regional and country regulations:
- Draft, review, implement, and train new EHS policy & procedure,
- Strive for consistency in how EHS policies & procedures are interpreted and enforce standardization to the extent possible,
- Review corporate EHS compliance audit reports, identifying gaps in procedures and trends in non-compliance,
- Maintain current EHS policies & procedures, establishing renewal protocols and required approvals,
- Work with the EHS Management Systems & Compliance Sr Manager in scheduling EHS policy & procedure renewal training requirements and management within LMS.
- Promoting EHS policy, procedure, programs, and practices through effective communications channels:
- Form and maintain an Extended Safety Leaders Group for disseminating EHS communications and facilitating monthly reviews to discuss significant events/incidents and new initiatives/programs,
- Work with EHS leaders in generating & presenting key data for publishing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and metrics,
- Create & manage a EHS communications library for key information such as, safety communication of significant events/incidents, EHS initiatives & programs, and general information & instructions.
This position is a global manager position. This is an administrative position. No physical demands have been identified for this position. Typical office ergonomic conditions exist. Routine, required travel is not anticipated for this position, but opportunities for travel may occasionally be needed based on new project requirements, training or other reasons.
Required Education and Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in manufacturing, preferably in chemical manufacturing,
- 5 years’ experience working with various EHS management systems and programs,
- 5 years’ experience in project management and/or continuous improvement initiatives,
- Global knowledge of EHS regulations preferred,
- Six Sigma Greenbelt certification, or equivalent, preferred.
- Strong technical and regulatory expertise in relevant environmental, health and safety,
- Technically savvy, with the ability to adapt and learn new software and systems,
- Strong knowledge in Microsoft Excel, analytics, & statistics, specifically manipulating data in meaningful and valuable ways,
- General awareness about management systems, including but not limited to: ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Responsible Care RC-14001,
- Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and/or local country equivalent,
- Behavior based safety programs,
- Incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action management,
- Knowledge of DevonWay or other similar EHS management system preferred,
- Knowledge of DSS+, DuPont or other similar learning management system (LMS) preferred,
- Highly organized, self-motivated,
- Detail-orientation yet able to ‘see the big picture’,
- Excellent and professional communication skills
