We are currently searching for an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager (EHS) to provide support to our Massachusetts plant, located in North Attleboro. Reporting to the Refining Business Unit Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state and local environment, safety, health, and transportation regulations. The EHS Manager will also provide support to our plant operations by coordinating and administering appropriate training and promoting employee safety and environmental awareness. The environmental scope for the plants includes wastewater operations.
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
- Preparing and properly submitting all reports and permits and providing compliance assistance in completing forms as required by Federal and State regulations and Company policies; ensuring that all EH&S recordkeeping systems provide timely reporting both to external agencies and internal managers. This includes regulatory compliance assistance in the US for corporate GHS compliance, SDS updates and labeling systems; assisting with EHS regulatory compliance sections of all new and existing chemical sales specification audit forms; and assisting locally and globally with TSCA notifications.
- Maintaining and improving the regulatory compliance efforts within the facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying areas where new procedures are required, updating existing procedures, and maintaining procedures according to Company policies; Reviewing, recommending, and signing off on all MQ1 production work instructions, lab documents, safety policies, corporate safety policies, chemical specs and related forms.
- Managing safety programs and initiatives to maintain compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements: Safetyfirst training, observation scheduling, tracking corrective actions and reporting. Overseeing and directing safety committee activities; Creating, reviewing, and updating necessary safety programs to maintain compliance with OSHA; overseeing the Process Safety Management Program.
- Managing the internal Occupational Health program by arranging pre-employment and annual physicals, ensuring all employees have the required personal protective equipment needed to perform functions and being the liaison between Metalor and contracted health professionals identified to perform certain occupational health functions; conducting Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for operations
- Serving as the Workers Compensation Officer and the primary contact for the purpose of responding to workplace accidents
- Participating as a member on the Hazmat Team
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- A Bachelors degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Environmental Safety Management or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree
- At least 5 years’ experience as an environmental, safety and health professional; experience in a chemical manufacturing and/or ISO 9001-2000 environment
- Strong knowledge of Federal and State environmental, safety, health, and transportation regulations and reporting.
- Experience in training and directing employees at all levels relative to internal and external EH&S requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience in processing Workers’ Compensation claims
- Maintenance of TURA Planner certification, maintaining the Toxic Use Reduction Plan for the Massachusetts site (Metalor will assist with obtaining if an otherwise qualified candidate does not have the certification already)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience in project management is a plus
- Experience with wastewater operations is preferred; possession of a Grade 2 Massachusetts Wastewater license is a strong plus
- Knowledge of or past implementation experience of ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 is a plus.
