About the Role:
Conducts original research in an area of national, international, and/or District economics to advance knowledge and understanding and to advise senior management and the Board of Directors in these areas. Economists are expected to produce high quality research for publication in refereed journals and presentation at research conferences, and to provide high quality analysis for policy briefings and Bank publications. Disseminates information and promotes the image of the Federal Reserve Bank through various publications, speaking engagements, and interactions with members of the economic, academic and business communities. Performs independent work and study and demonstrates advanced skills in performing research activities. Develops new methods/applications when appropriate, understands the systemic impact of policies, and has experience and record in publication originality, policy advice and/or institutional knowledge.
You Will:
- Conducts original economic research in areas which may include energy, banking structure, monetary theory and policy, labor, or international trade and finance to provide information for advising senior management on national, international, and District policies.
- Conducts original economic research relevant to the Bank’s goals and objectives to provide information for advising senior management on District, national and international policies.
- Writes articles, professional papers, and manuscripts, performs public speaking engagements and responds to inquiries from the community.
- Writes briefing documents or informational memos at the request of senior management on economic topics related to area of expertise; writes assigned portions of the staff briefing material for the District Economic Overview within area of expertise.
- Maintains a current knowledge of economic and business conditions for the District, nationally, and internationally by reading professional papers and periodicals, books, and other economic business and economic material.
- Attends professional and business conferences and seminars; presents research papers to peers in national and regional forums.
- Presents seminars to Department economists related to research findings; reviews and comments on papers and publications written by other economists in the Department.
- Continually enhances professional development and maintains extensive current knowledge - theoretical and practical - in field of expertise.
- Attends and participates in professional and business conferences and seminars.
You Have:
- A PhD in economics and/or finance.
- Less than two years of experience in assigned field and in a similar position.
Strong analytical and communication skills are essential. - Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted for any of the above requirements
Notes:
This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be eligible for the information access required for this position and sponsorship for a work visa, and subsequently for permanent residence, if they sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and meet other eligibility requirements.
