Educational Technology Specialist
Hourly Salary Range - $28.38 to $33.34
SCOPE OF WORK: Provides technical and administrative support for academic technologies used by faculty to augment course curricula and enhance the student learning experience in face-to-face, hybrid and online courses including developing training, tutorials, user guides and other instructional resources. This position reports to the Director of Educational and Student Success Technologies.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides developmental and technical assistance to CCSNH faculty and staff in the use of academic technology tools to develop technology enhanced learning experiences (including but not limited to Canvas, Kaltura, Zoom, SharePoint).
- Works collaboratively with faculty on the conversion of face-to-face instructional materials to remote and/or online delivery that enhances the learning experience.
- Supports the development of instructional materials that are consistent with instructional design principles for online teaching and learning.
- Develops and delivers engaging training opportunities for faculty and staff on utilizing technology components within their courses, best practices for technology success, etc. in a variety of modalities (live, webinar, 1:1, on-demand).
- Provides technological training support and troubleshooting to academic units and end users as needed via email, phone, video conferencing or face-to-face meetings. Participate in efforts to streamline and improve that support.
- Designs, develops, and produces support documentation for teaching tools and the learning management system using a variety of modalities including written, video, and audio instruction; development in alignment with pedagogical practices for adult learners.
- Explores, researches, evaluates, and advises on new and emerging instructional technologies (hardware, software, combination of technologies) to assist faculty with building learner-centered experiences regardless of course modality using instructional design theories, practices, and methodologies.
- Sources new solutions for existing problems as well as innovative ideas and makes recommendations on improvements to the team.
- Participates in reviewing, testing, piloting, and deploying new technology features that enhance student success through improved learning outcomes, improved access to information and services through streamlined business processes, or enhanced user experience.
- Promotes and pilots solutions to ensure validity and create faculty buy-in for online and hybrid assessments, activities, and delivery formats as aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
- Assists in finding creative solutions to problems related to the LMS and other teaching and learning applications, reaching out to vendors when applicable for support, enhancement requests, or issues.
- Assists with the assessment of student and faculty use of the LMS.
- Monitors the learning technology environment for tools, best practices, and resources and emerging technologies and maintains current knowledge of academic technologies.
- Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Education. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience in educational technology including instructional design, training and user support. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education, up to maximum of two years.
License/Certification: None required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a higher education environment.
RECOMMENDED TRAITS: Strong demonstrated technical skills using: Canvas LMS; Zoom; Kaltura, MS SharePoint, Macintosh and PC platforms; Camtasia or similar technologies. Knowledge/Experience with authoring tools and educational technology standard. Understanding of adult-learning theory and instructional design. Familiarity with web best practices regarding accessibility, navigation, and usability including ADA compliance, Section 508, Fair Use guidelines, FERPA and the TEACH Act. Demonstrable technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation. Experience in conducting trainings in a one-on-one or group setting. Experience using technologies to design student-centered learning materials in a digital learning environment. Ability to design assessments and activities that promotes learning. Experience in providing direct technical customer support on the phone, online, and in person. Demonstrated client-facing oral and written technical communications skills. Ability to work with diverse populations and to address the needs of the academic/staff community with professionalism, diplomacy, and sensitivity. Demonstrates a positive, responsible, and cooperative customer service approach. Ability to work independently, exercise professional judgment, and handle confidential matters appropriately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with System and college faculty and staff and external constituents. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by CCSNH.
