Electrical Cable and Harness Design
This position will be responsible for the, design and development, and delivery of multiple Electrical Cable and Harness engineering design solutions for military Ground Vehicle applications. This role provides the opportunity to be part of an engineering team, take ownership of the cable and harness development from requirements documentation, design and development, fabrication, test and product delivery. This position will be located in Warren, MI and with responsibilities including (but not limited to) the following Cable and Harness Engineer (CHE) tasks for ground R&D and fielded Ground Vehicle programs. The position is open to individuals with 5-10+ years of relevant experience in automotive cable and harness design. A Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electro mechanical engineering is required.
Essential Job Functions:
Define and develop electrical interconnects through coordination with system, subsystem, and unit engineers including: Interconnect diagrams, schematics, and assembly drawings that meet MIL-STD and industry standards.
Participate in product teams with subsystems to ensure interface requirements are understood and met.
Incorporate system requirements flow down requirements into the harness/cable designs.
Prepare input for project Design Reviews data packages and support design reviews PDR and CDR.
Prepare and present harness subsystem design, architecture and implementation plans at various design team meetings and reviews.
Assist in establishing harness/cable routing and segmentation.
Perform analysis including:
Power and Voltage drop analysis and capacitance studies.
RF transmission line analysis and performance.
Signal protection fuses diode resistors, embedded circuit modules.
EMI and EMC shielding.
Cable bundle sizing and branches.
Thermal, environmental and POL resistance.
Prepare and release specifications, manufacturing assembly drawings, and methods and special tooling.
Provide support to manufacturing and quality control and test.
Support the integration team to solve issues with cabling and harness issues.
Develop procedures and reports as required to support the Engineering Team and Field Service Representatives.
Support Test Incident Report (TIR) and Failure Analysis and Corrective Action Report (FACAR) resolution.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with Five to Ten years of engineering experience working cable and harness development in the automotive or aerospace field.
Electrical Cable and harness design, assembly, and systems integration and test experience.
Engineering design inputs for system Technical Data Package Development TDP development.
Comfortable working in a fast paced inter-disciplinary environment and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
Self-motivated with ability to work in a team environment with a high level of attention to detail.
Detail-oriented and have excellent verbal and written communications skills and organization skills.
Extensive knowledge of military and commercial standards of connectors, wires, and contacts for ground vehicles and aerospace applications such as MIL-C-38999, MIL-C-24308, MIL-DTL-83513, MIL-C-5015.
Knowledge of Military and Commercial Standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-461, IPC-610 and IPC-620, ASME-Y14.100, ASME-Y14.24, ASME-Y14.35M & ASME-14.3.
Proficient using harness design software tools such as Visio, Creo, or Zuken to develop schematics, bill of materials and assembly drawing as well as PLM systems such and Windchill for configuration management.
Experience working on commercial or military ground vehicles or aerospace systems.
