PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Electrical Engineer will support functions of the Engineering department by applying technical knowledge, sound engineering judgment and skill to ensure the electrical system meets the present and future requirements and is rendering safe, efficient and dependable service to its member/owners at the lowest possible cost.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide assistance to members in obtaining adequate, reliable and safe electric service to new and existing cooperative members at the most economical cost.
- Assist in the preparation and application of rate studies, line extension policies, power requirement studies, right-of-way, easement, and joint use practices, and other studies as required.
- Assist with the selection of and application of materials consistent with REA and the Cooperative's standards and practices, working with and coordinating the engineering phases of materials with manufacturers, representatives and outside consultants as necessary.
- Assisting Operations in the scheduling and coordination of field work between Cooperative and outside construction and/or engineering personnel with engineering functions, assisting in the preparation and fulfillment of legal contracts and documents, performing necessary inspections and investigations.
- Preparing engineering reports, computations, cost estimates, specifications or other engineering details.
- Long- and short-range planning of the electric power distribution system; preparing long-range plans and work plans.
- Knowledgeable on distributed generation practices and policies as it relates to the interconnection to Corn Belt Energy's electric grid for all sizes of projects. Works with members or contractors from inception to final commissioning of projects
- Responds to contractor RFI's in a timely manner. Collaborates with installing contractors on constructability of the proposed design.
- Works with local, state, county and townships on road projects that my impact our electric grid. Receive and interpret engineering drawings, conduct site reviews, and coordinate project through completion. Will require working closely with the various local reps and their contractors.
- Maintains knowledge of NEC and NESC codes as it relates to all aspects of electrical installations and safety.
- Knowledgeable of the Cooperative's policies on new installations and revamps including executing contracts for projects of all sizes.
- Plans and controls activities that promote an accident-free workplace and proper environmental regulation requirements.
- Responds to, investigates, documents, and resolves requests for service, member/consumer concerns and complaints, service irregularities, installation and restoration.
- Provides Engineering guidance during outage restoration and emergency situations.
- Will be given special projects and all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Other Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering, in conjunction with relevant technical experience, will be considered.
- Professional Engineer License, preferred.
- Experience with an electrical distribution system, preferred.
- Valid IL driver's license.
- Must be proficient in the operation of a computer and the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ideal candidate will have experience with Milsoft software in analyzing distribution systems, or similar software applications.
- Ideal candidate will have experience with NISC software suite or a similar CIS, GIS, or OMS software application.
- A thorough knowledge of and be able to apply sound engineering principles as they apply to the electric utility industry.
- Must be able to perform and prepare clear, concise and accurate engineering reports, studies and investigations.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills, poise, tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations in written and verbal communication.
