Electrical Engineer – Kent, WA
Spees Design-Build (SDB) is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer to join our team in Kent, WA.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for creating and reviewing detailed engineered drawings, writing specifications and design narratives, performing feasibility studies and reports, coordinating with equipment vendors and third-party contractors, and providing construction management to ensure a successful project.
SDB is a design-build firm that specializes in providing architecture, engineering, and project management consulting services. The Electrical Engineer will be part of the dynamic A/E Design team within SDB’s Design-Bid-Build operations. This team is primarily involved in designing various project types within the Veterans Affairs Medical Center systems throughout the United States. The position collaborates with all other design discipline staff and will help build the team’s electrical engineering design department.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the electrical engineering field required; power emphasis preferred.
- 5-10 years of engineering design experience required.
- Engineer-in-Training/Engineer Intern (EIT/EI) is required; a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
- MV and LV power system design experience including but not limited to Switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, MCCs, VFDs, emergency power generation, UPSs, ATSs, harmonic mitigation and power factor correction, grounding, surge protection, and lightning protection.
- Lighting system design experience including but not limited to luminaire selection, lighting control systems, egress lighting, and photometrics.
- Low-voltage systems design experience including but not limited to telecommunications, fire alarm, security and surveillance systems, and nurse call.
- Power system analysis experience including but not limited to load flow, voltage drop, short-circuit, protection device selective coordination, arc-flash hazard risk assessment.
- Knowledge and experience in software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, EasyPower (or similar), Bluebeam, Procore, and Microsoft Office are preferred.
- Proficiency in building construction and electrical codes and standards.
- Comfortable working independently, in teams, and leading small teams.
- Flexibility to work on a variety of tasks.
- Hardworking, enthusiastic about learning and growing, positive attitude, team player, and dependable.
- Superior client-facing/client relationship/client management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with federal projects is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience and managerial experience are a must.
Candidates must have a solid understanding of electrical power systems, lighting and control systems, and low-voltage systems within a variety of project types including but not limited to health-care, institutional, data centers, mission-critical, and commercial. The Electrical Engineer will perform the following tasks:
- Develop detailed electrical-engineered construction drawings, specifications, design narratives, reports and feasibility studies.
- Responsible for designing and specifying the following types of electrical systems: MV and LV electrical power systems, standby power and UPS power systems, lighting and control systems, telecommunications systems, fire alarm systems, security and surveillance systems, nurse call systems, and lightning protection.
- Perform electrical engineering feasibility studies.
- Perform electrical engineering calculations.
- Fundamental project management
- Perform QC/QA design reviews.
- Responsible for the communication necessary with all parties to ensure a successful project.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and designers.
- Participate in activities and organizations related to our industry outside of daily business routine, developing peer relationships, technical growth, and business contacts.
- Sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to lift fifteen pounds at times.
- Occasional travel to various project sites for field investigation and construction inspection.

- Salary Range $85k - $125k DOE
