The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.
In this position, you will be a member of the Electrical Engineering R&D team and be primarily responsible for new product development activities including requirements definition, feasibility testing, electrical design/updates/documentation, verification testing, component evaluation/qualifications, and support of cross functional project teams. The selected candidate will apply electrical engineering knowledge to product development activities, manage battery testing, participate in design reviews, develop/execute electrical test protocols, write test reports, develop test fixtures/automation, and support other general design and development activities.
What you’ll work on
- Experience with schematic and PCB layout using Altium design tools.
- Develop product specifications, design FMEAs, and V&V test protocols.
- Ensure that electrical design and test equipment meet applicable industry and medical device standards
- Communicate effectively to and participate in cross-functional development teams.
- Create and review electrical design specifications and product requirements.
- Write and submit Engineering Change Orders in Agile (a product life cycle management tool.)
- Comply with all applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and perform other duties as assigned by the Management Team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience
- Mastery of fundamental Electrical Engineering principles.
- Experience in performing complex engineering calculations and relating results to design verification tests including statistical analysis and tolerance analysis
- Working knowledge in writing process, product requirements, and design specifications.
- Understanding of processes used in the design and manufacturing of medical devices, particularly those for very low-current, battery-powered handheld, wearable, and body-worn devices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with standard digital interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, USB)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering
- Knowledge in modern programming languages such as C/C++, Python, etc.
- Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- PCB layout using Altium design tool, EMC design and test, low power design
- Experience with wireless designs (BLE, RFID/NFC)

The base pay for this position is $65,900.00 – $131,900.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
