Job Description:
Holtec International, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for the nuclear, solar, geothermal and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry, is seeking to add an Electrical Engineer to their SMR-160 nuclear reactor engineering team.
The Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of safety and non-safety related Electrical systems for the SMR-160 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) regularly interfacing with the I&C, systems, mechanical, and nuclear engineering teams for electrical design and consultation. This Engineer applies his or her knowledge and experience, industry best practices, regulatory guidance, codes and standards, and good engineering judgment to ensure the design is compliant with International regulatory criteria and industry best practices.
Specific Area of Responsibility:
- Develop system function and design requirement specifications
- Develop one-line/three-line diagrams
- Develop licensing requirements for electrical systems
- Develop component specifications for individual system components such as batteries, transformers, breakers, switchgear, relaying, etc.)
- Interact with vendors to obtain vendor input/design confirmation of various components
- Perform and support vendor selection and vetting process
- Work with other work groups to provide electrical design support
- Oversee any electrical work performed by other organizations
Minimum Requirements:
- BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
- 0-5 years of demonstrated applicable experience in power generation (nuclear, fossil, etc.) electrical system design
- Demonstrated technical writing skills and effective communication skills.
- Demonstrated good judgment, ability to act independently, flexibility, adaptability and leadership skills.
- Ability to plan and organize work tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong inter-personal skills; effective in a team environment.
- Eligible to work in accord with Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
Desired Qualifications:
- MS in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field of study from an accredited college or university.
- >5 years of demonstrated applicable experience in power generation (nuclear, fossil, etc.) electrical system design
- Experience in power system design and/or maintenance at a power generation facility, specifically on site distribution (AC and DC), off site interfaces (switchyard), grounding and lighting protection, plant lighting systems, battery system design, or diesel generators.
- Experience with NUREG 0800 Chapter 8.
- Knowledge and understanding of US domestic or international licensing standards.
- Experience with applicable codes (including nuclear-specific) IEEE, IEC, EPRI, ISA, ANSI, and IAEA codes and standards.
