JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: The Test Automation Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for test and automation equipment in an electronics manufacturing facility while supporting the Company’s vision of integrity, responsiveness, and flexibility. Provide technical support to internal/external customers as it relates to assembly, testing, circuit operation and quality. Responsible for the technical support to introduce new products into the production system. Suggest, select and/or design of new test equipment and automation projects to include coordination of the assembly, maintenance, and calibration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4-year bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience required.
- 3+ years’ experience in related field preferred with emphasis on automated test systems and/or automation.
- Experience with LabVIEW or similar production test software preferred.
- Experience with machine programing utilized in automation/robotics.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong and efficient problem-solving skills with experience in Lean principles
- Ability to follow blueprints, electrical and mechanical drawings.
- A functional understanding of basic programming concepts of computer software applications.
A working knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with a variety of personnel in a positive and professional manner.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and workload
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support operations team by working in a safe, customer-focused manner.
- Provide next level support for production techs with defect analysis of test failures.
- Do consultations on new product designs, related production, and testing processes.
- Budget, design, fabricate, and implement test tooling and fixturing along with all required documentation for use in the manufacturing of electronic circuit boards.
- Provide test plan proposals for new products and ensure that the customer concurs with test plans as proposed.
- Provide design support to the customer regarding testing
- Provide an understanding of the circuit as designed to assist in manufacturing troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on automation projects for assembly process improvements.
- Create and maintain test procedures and SOPs for test equipment.
- Provide technical support and/or oversee repairs and maintenance of test equipment.
- Communicate and coordinate with outside vendors for test system and automation systems development and implementation.
- Keep current on new methodologies in test and automation.
- Assist customer in value analysis and cost reduction of products and processes provided by ESI.
- Assist in training production associates on test system operation.
- Adjust hours as may be necessary to make sure full operation of equipment for all shifts is achieved and to minimize downtime.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with all team members.
- Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work areas in accordance with safety policy and OSHA standards.
- Participate in 5S, Kaizen, and safety events.
- Identify and implement suggestions for cost saving improvements.
- Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Test Automation Engineer is accountable for knowledge of the circuitry in the products being quoted and their testing requirements, applicability of testing plans and accuracy of testing methods at the time of production. Accountable for maintaining positive customer/Company relationships, particularly in the technical and design engineering applications area. Manage time well to prioritize efforts with efficiency. Accountable for practicing and promoting safe working habits, compliance with Company policies/procedures, and contribution to the overall Electronic Systems, Inc. team.
