A Tier 3 Reading Teacher, also known as a Readin Specialist or Special Educator, provides intensive, individualized reading support for students who need more help than Tier 1 or Tier 2 instruction can provide to close the gap. A Tier 3 Reading Specialist should have extensive knowledge of RTI process and MTSS. To develop skills, attitudes and knowledge in an educational program for Kindergarten through third grade children and assist in other school programs.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Access pupil needs and provide instruction, guidance, motivation and appropriate learning activities to develop concepts in all subject areas listed in the Course of Study adopted by the South Buffalo Charter School's Board of Trustees.
+ Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth and keep records.
+ Prepare evaluations and communicate with parents on individual pupil progress and needs.
+ Provide parents with information on educational programs within the school.
+ Cooperate with other professional staff in formulating school rules and policies and in developing curriculum and evaluation procedures.
+ Assist in slecting and requisitioning books, instructional aides and supplies.
+ Perform basic attendance and classroom accounting.
+ Establish and maintain, in cooperation with the school Principal, a safe and functional learning environment.
+ Participate in school-wide curriculum development.
+ Participate in school-wide professional development.
+ Maintain competence through self-selected professional growth activities.
+ Assist other staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
+ To provide a diagnostic, prescriptive, multisensory, sequential method for teaching reading, writing and spelling.
+ Apply culturally responsive practices into their instruction, while keeping MTSS practices in mind.
+ Write lesson plans that detail the methods that will be used, and materials needed to provide multisensory, and prescriptive lessons.
+ Design and implement lesson plans that will help students improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, reading words containing the basic six syllables, and comprehensive strategies.
+ Collaborate with classroom teachers, administration, special services coordinator, and families to analyze student data, discuss student placement, and the next steps that will be best for the student.
+ Provide instruction in a group containing no more than two students, it may still be necessary to differentiate instruction within the group.
+ Identify the specific reading gaps using pre-assessment, I-ready data, and Tier 2 progress monitoring data.
+ Analyze data from I-ready, Tier 2 progress monitoring and attendance to determine which students should be serviced in Tier 3 reading.
+ Progress monitor students approximately every 5 instructional days.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by Dorector or Director's designee.

Minimum Qualification:
Credential: NYS General Elementary or Standard Elementary
Education: Bachelor's Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirement
Salary:
Pay range is $43430.00 - $81367.14 based on years of service (NYS Transparency Law for Employers)
