Employee Relations Contractor – Senior Level V
Location: Hartford, CT/ Des Moines, IA/ Boston, MA/ New York, NY/Hybrid
Duration: 3-4 Months with possible contract to hire
Description:
Reporting to the Vice President, Employee Relations, the Employee Relations (ER) contractor will serve as dedicated ER representative to one or more functional areas. Additionally, this individual will assist with the leadership and oversight of the ER function, processes, policies, and strategic execution.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for executing employee relations policies, processes, and practices, providing sound advice, consultation and guidance to leaders and employees, and delivering and ensuring appropriate responses to employment issues that arise.
Facilitate dispute resolution, providing guidance and direction to managers and employees to ensure an effective resolution.
Provide guidance on performance concerns, disciplinary action, conflict management, complex leave and accommodation matters, and other difficult workplace issues that arise.
Practice effective case management, ensuring the tracking of ER activity, and identification of potential areas of risk and key trends. Assist in developing approaches to proactively address areas of risk and concerning trends.
Partner with HR Business Partners, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Compensation, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and other key stakeholders to ensure business needs are met, the organization complies with its policies, and relevant laws and regulations, and an optimal employee experience is maintained.
Conduct investigations into workplace concerns and complaints and develop recommended actions to resolve the concerns and ensure repeated incidents do not occur.
Develop and deliver communications and training to educate leaders and increase awareness and understanding of policies, legalities, regulations, and best practices to maintain a positive and compliant work environment.
Assist with fact-finding, research support, legal case responses, and other activities as directed by Employment Counsel in response to legal demands and agency charges.
Collaborate and consult with leaders at all levels, employees, and Subject Matter Experts to develop proactive actions in response to employee feedback and/or workplace investigations.
Assist with the development of new policies and recommend revisions to current policies.
Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Work independently with minimal supervision, in ambiguous situations with a high degree of legal, regulatory, and reputation risk.
Exercise strong analytical skills using data and anecdotes to develop persuasive narratives and recommendations.
Operate with a high degree of integrity, ethics and sound judgement in the performance of all activities.

Minimum degree required:

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
Certification in Human Resources, Workplace Investigations, or related areas is a plus.
Minimum of seven (7) years in one or more Human Resources functions.
Three (3) or more years of employee and/or labor relations experience, preferably in a customer service or operations environment with hourly non-exempt and salaried exempt populations.
Demonstrated experience working with and influencing business leaders and Human Resources partners.
Prior experience with operating in and supporting onsite and remote workforces.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and phone.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ability to multi-task and solve problems in a challenging environment with constant change requiring regular reprioritization.
Ability to respond to frequent urgent matters in a moderate to high stress environment.
Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of management.
