Description
The Employee Relations Specialist's primary focus is to serve as an advocate for employees and a resource for Leaders on all issues related to employee relations, employment law, organizational policies, employee engagement and employee retention. Helps find the root cause of turnover and implements programs to support retention strategies. In addition will support HR strategies to meet short and long-term business objectives while fostering a workplace culture and environment consistent with the values and mission outlined by the executive team. Position hours need to support West Coast.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
- Performance Management: Provides guidance to leaders regarding performance evaluation, compliance, coaching and counseling. Trains leaders on performance differentiation best practices to optimize employee performance.
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to managers to minimize legal risk with effective follow through and resolution.
- Investigations. Consults or conducts employee investigations. Ensures that due diligence guidelines are followed and that thorough investigations are conducted in a timely manner. Leads investigations necessary on complaints including but not limited to harassment, hostile work environment and unfair leadership.
- Makes appropriate recommendations to resolve ER matters.
- Resolves employees' concerns that may affect their performance at the workplace.
- Develops action plans to motivate and build the morale of the employees.
- Employment Practices. Provides guidance, recommendations and interventions for problem resolution to leaders, employees and teams. Consults on issues such Reasonable Accommodations. Provides advice and counsel to leaders regarding employment practices, policy, employment laws and the collective bargaining agreement.
- Responsible for compliance across all states.
- Assist with ADA/LOA requests.
- Analytics: Analyzes exit interviews and new hire survey trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs and policies to engage and retain a high-quality workforce.
- Training: Develop and conduct HR training creating HR Toolkits for leadership and staff.
- Partners with HR leadership to design and implement new approaches to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity, and development of HR.
- Builds a reputation as a credible HR team member and demonstrates the highest level of integrity and ethics.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Travel may be required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Human Resources preferred or equivalent
SHRM or HRCI certification preferred
SHRM or HRCI certification preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in a Human Resources role specifically dealing with employee relations issues, investigations, performance management, recruiting and federal and state-respective employment laws preferred.
- Work Schedule: Sunday through Thursday 11am-8pm EST. Hybrid if in Tampa area.
- Advanced knowledge of HRIS and ability to learn new technical systems.
- Experience working for a company with a large employee base in multiple states.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, OneNote Excel, and Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express and logically articulate a point of view.
- Professional demeanor with the right amount of empathy and compassion.
- Ability to listen with patience and respond to high level, controversial issues utilizing good judgement.
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy in resolving confidential sensitive issues.
- Ability to prioritize, work independently and time manage work assignments in high face paced work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to drive execution of projects, and tasks, and meet outlined objectives.
- Ability to interact effectively and establish working relationships with people at all organizational levels.
- A positive, can-do attitude; strong people skills/emotional intelligence; excellent analytical skills; willingness to roll up your sleeves and chip in to help the team.
- Veterinary Industry experience preferred.
