As Electric Boat continues to support unprecedented Navy demand for nuclear submarines, the performance of our critical supply base is paramount to supporting DOD objectives. With our continued procurement of materials for Columbia (CLB) and Virginia (VCS) Class submarines (1 + 2), plus future development needs for AUKUS, ship sustainment and class upgrades, the Supply Chain organization is rapidly seeking to improve our critical supply base readiness.
Reporting to the Program Supervisor of Supply Chain Risk Management, which drives supplier risk identification and mitigation as part of the Integrated Enterprise Plan (IEP), the Supplier Development Engineer is a unique opportunity for engineering candidates to support one of EBs key business objectives to develop the supply base, and directly impact one of our top strategic priorities to fulfill EBs purpose, mission, and vision.
General Description of Position:
In this newly created role, the Supplier Development Engineer will perform activities including capability and capacity assessments, risk identification and mitigation, root cause analysis and problem resolution, and have holistic ownership of supplier performance improvement.
Successful candidates will collect and analyze cross-functional data inputs from all Supplier Management and Oversight (SMO) stakeholders and help resolve identified issues to ensure consistent and sustained performance in order to meet the high visibility need. The Supplier Development Engineer role is a great opportunity to actively improve our critical supply base.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Supplier Development Engineer will work directly with SMO stakeholders (Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, etc.) and suppliers to perform the following:
- Analysis of supply chain data including demand forecasts, as well as quality and delivery performance
- Technical assessment of critical supplier capability and capacity, including occasional on-site visits, following the IEP Supplier Assessment model
- Identification of root cause of deficiencies uncovered during assessment
- Development of Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) addressing root cause of identified issues
- Managing the execution and follow-through of POA&M actions
- Management of quarterly Commodity Steering Teams (CSTs) to address global market concerns
- Coordinate with Supplier Management and Oversight (SMO) stakeholders to inform decision-making
- Analysis of common trends and challenges impacting suppliers and marketspaces
- Support identification and recommendation of supplier investments, audits, or other oversight opportunities
- Internal and external reporting on supplier and marketspace performance
- Must have excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills to effectively interface with internal and external customers as well as all levels of the organization
- Must have a strong desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Must be able to make decisions independently
- Self-motivated, well organized, possess the desire to learn, grow and lead

Requirements:
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering
- 3+ years relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience with Root Cause Analysis, Problem Identification & Resolution, and Risk Management
- Supply Chain Management experience (Procurement, Supplier Quality, Engineering, etc.)
- Proven ability to develop consensus among multiple stakeholders
- Strong project management skills
- Willingness to travel based on business needs
- Industrial, Systems, Manufacturing or other Engineering Degree
- Advanced Degree (Engineering, Business, Supply Chain)
- Experience conducting capability and/or capacity assessments
- APICS, Six Sigma Black Belt, or ASQ certification
- Knowledge of the Integrated Enterprise Plan (IEP), and specifically Level of Effort (LOE) #3
- Functional or manufacturing knowledge of end use components (pumps, electrical systems, valves, fittings, castings/forgings, large fabrications, etc.)
