About the Job
POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Sr. Engineering Technician, performs a variety of highly responsible technical duties involving include inspection of road, sidewalk and underground utilities construction projects, preparation and recording of engineering sketches and inspection reports, field construction layout, project management, and quality assurance for public works projects. Coordinates Engineering Department field activities with other City departments and public utilities. Performs related duties as assigned.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

On-season:
- Monitor contractor work to ensure it meets contract specifications and quality standards.
- Keep accurate records and progress reports and provide updates on project progress or delays to all stakeholders.
- Conduct and supervise field tests on the quality of workmanship and materials.
- Create sketches and drawings for engineering and design purposes.
- Inspect permits for sidewalks, driveways, and other work in the City's right-of-way; oversee progress and final inspections.
- Conduct pre-construction meetings and coordinate construction activities with other City departments, residents, and utilities.
- Respond to project-related inquiries and resolve resident complaints.
- Update digital maps and drawings as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Off-season:
- Collect field data for future projects, including hazards and measurements.
- Maintain permanent records of streets, sewer, and water utilities.
- Organize and maintain department files.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a high school diploma, or its equivalent, supplemented by substantial college or technical coursework in civil engineering technology or closely related field.
- A minimum of 1 years work experience in construction project field inspection and management.
- Knowledge of streets, sidewalks, sewer and water construction, excavation and grading, and soils. Knowledge of water distribution.
- Concrete certification and GIS knowledge preferred.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift over 50lbs
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions
- Must have transportation and be able to transport between offsite work locations
- Must have access to a mobile phone
