The successful candidate will receive daily assignments and direction from the designated officials in participating municipalities, state agencies, and authorities. The candidate will exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment within an assigned area of responsibility, and work is subject to evaluation based on performance. The candidate will also perform various aspects of building inspection and code enforcement processes for commercial and residential building construction of various designated use groups and construction type, and other related duties as requested.

Responsibilities:- Plan review/documentation / physical agility / adaptability between municipalities
- Work with engineers, architects, trades people, owners, authorities having jurisdiction.
- Ability to think on one’s feet.
- Ability to retrieve appropriate code sections and provide proper interpretation.
• Building Official or Assistant Building Official licensing by the State of Connecticut or equivalent. (Depending on workload – electrical or mechanical/plumbing certifications are good too. Also Fire Official). Trades licenses – E-2 / P-X
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in residential or commercial building inspection
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid CT Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
• College degree
• Trades License
Skills:
Thorough knowledge, understanding, and ability in the application of the Connecticut Building Code, planning and zoning, and land use; proper knowledge of the use, quality and strength of building materials; adequate knowledge of fire prevention best practices and fire protection systems; thorough knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and structural work; proper knowledge of electrical distribution, plumbing, heating and cooling system installations; good knowledge of accepted trade practices regarding light, ventilation, accessibility, and egress.
Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; good ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and specifications; good ability to enforce codes and regulations with firmness and tact; good ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to inspect projects and installations in various stages of progress.
Knowledge in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook), Internet, and permitting software. Adobe / bluebeam (plan review and comment).
