Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking to hire an Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join our growing Civil Engineering team at our Kansas City, MO headquarters.This position will include civil engineering design, construction document preparation including CAD design, specifications and estimates for a variety of projects, including rail, road, airport infrastructure, coastal development, site development, storm water management and utilities design projects. Day to day assignments and technical guidance will be directed by current staff Project Managers. This position will also involve coordination with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and personnel in the Berkeley office and other TranSystems offices. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills. General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Preparation of conceptual design and construction documents using Microstation/Geopak/OpenRoads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and SewerCAD.
- Preparation of investigative design reports, studies, and databases/maps. GIS experience preferred, not required.
- Project coordination with in-house engineering and architects and outside consultants.
- Assist others in analyzing information and data in preparing designs of complex design or load rating tasks.
- Assist others in preparing probable cost of construction or other cost estimating tasks.
- May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
- Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 0 to 3 years' professional civil engineering design experience.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam within the first 6 months of employment.
- Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and various engineering software systems
- AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, AREMA, AISC and ACI design codes.
- Individuals should be competent in reading plans and shop drawings, and in evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
- Team-oriented engineer with strong communication skills, well organized with good time management practices.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (E.g. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car or pickup truck. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
