Our Powertrain Operations facility, located on Pilgrim Road in Menomonee Falls, WI, is where the “jewel” of the motorcycle comes to life. Pilgrim Road employees produce engines and transmissions for the final assembly plant in York, Pennsylvania, as well as transmissions, and replacement parts for sale through Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories business. Job Summary
This position leads its’ stakeholders to develop and implement World-Class environmental and safety processes and policies that assure regulatory compliance and injury prevention. It will strategically guide stakeholder groups in continuous improvement activities involving safety, ergonomics, and environmental topics, while being responsible for ongoing training programs and support. The EHS manager is responsible for evaluating and recommending safety risk assessment tools; environmental and safety auditing and establishing metrics to monitor performance. This role is responsible for long term strategic plans positioning operations in meeting and exceeding both safety and environmental regulations along with providing direction regarding applicable safety and environmental regulations during project planning. This position provides leadership and support to internal and external stakeholders including union and facility leadership, front line leaders, employee, Human Resources, Safety, Security and Health/Medical staff, Risk Management, loss prevention consultants, insurance brokers, OSHA, EPA and other state and federal agencies.
Job Responsibilities:
• Continuous Improvement: Find ways to continuously improve processes and responsibilities in their job. Develop and participate in safety and environmental audits of the physical environment and systems to identify gaps and create recommendations for corrective actions. Develop and implement corrective actions to identified and correct opportunities.
• Communication: Interact effectively with variety of stake holders via various communication mediums (written and/or verbal). Communicate environmental, health and safety principles and standards in a way that gains support from all levels of the organization. Identify the leading indicators to environmental and safety performance and effectively communicate the trends to influence the changes in the business process.
• Leadership: Lead a change in both the technical and the human organizational arena by shaping a vision, aligning the EHS organization and providing leadership for implementation and continuous improvement. Lead and develop EHS staff and model behavior in a style that demonstrates the corporation’s participative and empowerment goals. Build collaborative relationships with all stakeholders, to include local union and facility leadership while maintaining high EHS standards. Demonstrated ability to relate closely with members of the local union and facility leadership to advise and counsel on matters relating to developing a positive culture, planning, measurement, and implementation of corporate-level EHS processes. Apply organizational analysis skills to conceptualize, design and implement a cultural and technical systems approach to occupational safety and health processes. Identify and develop skills in others so they can lead and integrate change into existing business activities.
• Safety & Environmental: Establish and implement strategic educational and training programs which to improve employee health, safety, and impact to the environment.
• Safety and Environmental Program Management: Manage an integrated, corporate-wide system to injury and illness prevention; and safety and environmental compliance that emphasizes both technical and human organizational issues. Develop strategies, standards and solutions for occupational injury/illness prevention, regulatory compliance assurance.
• Sustainability: Actively support H-D sustainability efforts and goals.
• Manage the EHS department annual budget and appropriate accounts, as necessary.
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering/Sciences or Occupational Safety, required.
Experience Requirements
• Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related technical experience and a minimum of 5 years of management experience.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is strongly desired.
• Must be knowledgeable in State and Federal Safety and Environmental regulations including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI and NEC.
• Must understand and demonstrate aspects of safety, environmental, industrial hygiene and ergonomics.
• Experience preparing reports, permits, licenses, plans and associated documents for submittal to Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies.
• Experience in leading and managing ISO 14001 Environmental Management System; including managing hazardous waste and environmental permitting.
• Must be able to proactively lead and guide others to achieve success and create a Partnering environment.
• Strong leadership and effective communication skills are required.
• Must be an initiative-taking problem solver, strategic, and able to work independently. Flexibility and the ability to maintain credibility and confidentiality is important.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
