Job Summary: Supervises the Environmental Services Department to maintain the Hospital and offsite clinic environment in a sanitary, attractive, orderly condition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with staffing, assigning, supervising and training of the environmental services staff.
- Development and implementation of policies and procedures for the department to coincide with the policies of the hospital. Monitor quality program for the department for effective monitoring of goals and objectives as set forth in the policies and procedures.
- Investigate and evaluate new housekeeping supplies and equipment. Responsible for the ordering of supplies and recommendation on the purchase of new equipment. Conducting the department inventory of housekeeping supplies, as needed.
- Inspection of areas of assignment, evaluate the physical condition of the hospital complex; establish and record cleaning maintenance schedules to keep the cleaning at an optimum level.
- Participate in staff meetings; collaborate with other departments to coordinate housekeeping activities, as needed.
- Protects patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
- Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
- Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician Trainer preferred within one year of hire. A valid Indiana Driver’s License is required.
Experience: 1 – 3 years in a housekeeping/janitorial position required. Prefer previous supervisory experience. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their use in a hospital environment required.
Physical Requirements: Works with harsh and sometimes hazardous chemicals, and around infectious diseases. Pulling, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, standing on feet for long periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds are requirements of this job.
