Environmental Services Supervisor
BASIC FUNCTION
The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the Environmental Services Department which includes Housekeeping and Laundry. You will manage the department within the established objectives, standards, policies and procedures while executing the job description in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. You will be financially accountable for the operation of the department, ensuring it remains within the approved budget, while simultaneously providing the facility with the maximum outcomes. The director is expected to foster strong interdepartmental relations and integrate the environmental service department with the facility plan of operations.
CHARACTERISTICS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintains an environment that is in sanitary, attractive and in orderly condition
Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and supervises functions and activities of the departments
Plans work and staffing schedules and areas of work to ensure adequate services are rendered
Conducts regular management staff meetings and communicates with members of other departments to coordinate housekeeping activities
Maintains the department in an “inspection ready” state at all times, assuring the department operates within federal, state, and local regulations
Maintains excellent relations with residents, visitors, and all community departments
Serves on facility committees and professional organizations
Ensures that competency in the position is maintained by participating in Orientation, In-Service, and staff development training programs, as required
Follows all facility policies and procedures
Promotes the professional growth and development of the entire departmental team
Implements change to the environmental service program that enhance the desirability of the community for current and future residents
Encourages and nurtures associate creativity and innovation with the Facility
Conducts daily QA rounds/inspections to ensure current quality controls and methodologies are suitable and sustainable.
Coordination of outside services (i.e. Pest Control, Window Cleaning, Medical and Solid Waste, Document Destruction, and Recycling program)
Reports monthly initiatives, goals, and accomplishments
Promotes and monitors resident satisfaction
Position may require additional duties/responsibilities to be performed outside the scope outlined within this job description as needed by the Administrator
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS EXPOSURE RISK May be exposed to wastes, diseases or other conditions.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Environmental Services Supervisor receives direction from the Administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED The Environmental Services Supervisor maintains the administrative, operational and functional supervision over all the employees in the department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to lift, pull, move equipment, supplies, etc in excess of fifty (50) pounds as required.
EDUCATION
Associates Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Some business and personnel management training preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works in well-lighted/ventilated office areas.
2. Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving constantly during working hours.
3. Must push carts and lift medium weight stacks.
4. Will be exposed to heat and steam.
5. Must handle contaminated linens.
6. Must follow established safety standards and report all violations.
7. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions and blood and body fluids. Subject to frequent interruptions.

9. Involved with patients/residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
10. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients/residents, family members, etc.
11. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours when necessary.
12. Involved in matters/projects as assigned by the Administrator.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
2. Must be able to take direction of delegated tasks from the Administrator.
3. Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the routine job duties.
4. Good administrative, leadership, managerial, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
5. Be personable with residents, families, and staff in a professional and cooperative manner.
6. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients/residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
7. Must have compassion, tolerance, and understanding, for the elderly.
8. Knowledge of ACHA, DOH, OBRA, OSHA, LSC, IDPH, and HFS regulations relevant to housekeeping, laundry, and employment.
9. Must be able to maintain good employee relations and employee morale.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
2. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
4. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
5. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients/residents, personnel and support agencies.
6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
7. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
