This Epidemiologist I position will support epidemiological work across the span of topics covered by the Snohomish County Health Department. The Epidemiologist 1 will work under the direction of the Epidemiology and Informatics Manager and will support the work of lead Epidemiologist and Epidemiologist 2 staff on the team. The Epidemiologist 1 will perform data cleaning, data analysis and report and visualization/dashboard generation for a wide variety of public health topics. The Epidemiologist 1 will support projects relating to opioid and other drug overdose prevention. The Epidemiologist 1 will also support general assessment work including analysis of population health survey data, vital statistics data and other public health data sets, as well as presentation of findings from these analyses. Additionally, the Epidemiologist will support projects in other areas, including but not limited to environmental health, communicable disease, and informatics and data management.
A hybrid schedule is generally what this incumbent will work, if they so choose, and as long as job duties and requirements are met as outlined by the Manager.
Under the direction of the Epidemiology and Informatics Manager, or designee, this position will perform epidemiological activities related to the collection of epidemiological data, researching, analyzing, interpreting, reporting, and presenting health-related characteristics of the population to identify the distribution of diseases, behaviors, and conditions. The Incumbent will provide public health information and engage in community health assessments, community health improvement plans, and program needs assessments. Performs public health evaluation activities for Snohomish County Health Department programs, including quality improvement initiatives. Evaluates program and/or project processes and outcomes to improve public health program quality and effectiveness. Work is performed under limited supervision. Incumbent will complete the work within the specified timeframe and is responsible for the work performed. Prepares and carries out assignments and handles problems and deviations in accordance with experienced judgment, instructions, policies, procedures and/or accepted practices. The incumbent coordinates work with internal and external epidemiology, assessment, and other public health staff, uses independent judgment concerning appropriate methods and procedures, and keeps the manager regularly informed of progress, and workload concerns. Manager may review work directly or may request the Health Officer review when necessary or appropriate, for accuracy, thoroughness and conformance to established practices and procedures.
