The Wharton AI & Analytics Initiative (WAIAI) is advancing cutting-edge applications of AI and data science in modern business, with the keen understanding that artificial intelligence is transforming how we live, learn, and work. WAIAI spearheads innovative student learning experiences, faculty research opportunities, and thought partnerships with industry experts and practitioners. Our work also extends to K-12 education, preparing the next generation to leverage AI and data science to its full potential, as well as executive education to train the existing workforce in modern AI and statistical methods. AI at Wharton, a research center under WAIAI, is dually focused on improving business processes and understanding human behavior around AI applications and adoption.




Reporting to the Faculty Co-Directors of AI at Wharton, the Executive Director will establish and implement the overall strategic priorities of AI at Wharton.




The Executive Director will:

+ Develop, implement and provide ongoing management of a short-term and long-term strategic plan for faculty research, industry engagement, fundraising and events for AIW in concert with WAIAI and Wharton's strategic priorities.

+ Execute the annual agenda of AIW programs by leading the design and implementation of all current and future AIW events and initiatives, including the bi-annual academic/industry conferences, webinar series, research awards, and AI start-up awards. Identify new opportunities for programs and events based on industry trends and academic research.

+ Serve as a primary liaison to internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with WAIAI staff and Wharton/Penn departments to ensure the effective execution of all goals, including programming, content development and all marketing efforts.

+ Facilitate the cultivation of individual and corporate donations to support AIW by working with AIW Faculty Co-Directors, WAIAI leadership, and Wharton External Affairs to identify prospective donors and giving opportunities with individuals, corporations, and foundations. This includes fostering stewardship opportunities for donors, collaborating in the completion of gift/grant legal agreements, and the execution of stewardship reporting.

+ Supervise AIW staff and provide administrative oversight and facilitation of the work of affiliated scholars, including Senior Fellows and Post-Docs for AIW research projects, as needed.

+ Provide oversight to the deployment and development of the AIW budget. Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are maintained.






Qualifications:

+ A Masters degree and 5-7 years or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Successful applicants should have experience in consumer and/or industry AI applications and prior experience in program and conference organization, ideally in an academic setting. Please illustrate your experience in these areas in your cover letter.

+ The candidate must demonstrate an ability to be an ambassador for AI at Wharton by managing high-level relationships with donors, faculty, university staff, and industry professionals.

+ Demonstrated project management, management of staff, a willingness to collaborate and excel within complex organizations, and the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion is required to execute the vision of the AIW faculty.

+ Experience engaging with individual and corporate donors is required. The candidate must have the ability to represent Wharton with the highest level of professionalism, both internally and globally and the ability to influence and inspire.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
