As a ministry of First Baptist Church of Naples, the staff of First Baptist Academy must meet the standards of employment that are required by the church whereby each employee must feel a "call" into this ministry work. In addition, as educators, we hire the most qualified and certified teachers who profess Christ as Savior and who are able to meet the standards of Good Character set forth by this ministry.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
POSITION OBJECTIVE: A Coach for FBA is responsible for leading and managing a sports team, developing students' athletic skills, and fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The coach will plan practices, prepare strategies, and guide students in competitive games while promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The coach should display a commitment to Jesus Christ as demonstrated in professional and personal life, a commitment to Christian education; a calling to the ministry of meeting the needs of children and young adults.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in coaching the sport at the middle or high school level.
- Knowledge of sport-specific rules, strategies, and safety procedures.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Practice and Game Planning:
- Develop and implement practice sessions to build technical skills, physical fitness, and team strategies.
- Create game plans and adapt strategies based on the strengths and weaknesses of both the team and opponents.
- Skill Development:
- Teach sport-specific skills and techniques in a way that is age-appropriate and encourages improvement.
- Provide individual feedback to athletes to help them grow in their abilities.
- Team Management:
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes teamwork, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Organize and supervise team meetings, practices, and events.
- Ensure equitable playing time, when appropriate, while maintaining a competitive team environment.
- Safety and Supervision:
- Promote a safe environment by enforcing school and sport-specific safety guidelines.
- Oversee the physical conditioning of athletes to prevent injuries.
- Supervise athletes during practices, games, and travel to ensure their well-being.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate with parents, school staff, and administrators regarding team activities, schedules, and expectations.
- Collaborate with other coaches to align on athletic programs and philosophies.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage team rosters, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist in coordinating travel and scheduling for games and competitions.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, injuries, and progress of athletes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
EXEMPT STATUS: Coaching Stipend
WORK SCHEDULE: As established by practice and game schedules.
