Job Summary and Qualifications
The Food and Nutritional Clerk under the direction of the FANS Management Team ensures all cashiering, clerical, and administrative support functions are completed timely and accurately. The position processes diet order, menus, and patient requests that are submitted. The FANS Clerk also responsible for a variety of employee related functions as a cashier, server, and short order cook. Provides the highest level of customer service at all times.
Clerical / Administrative Responsibilities:
· Prepares and corrects patient menus based on therapeutic diet and basic nutritional information.
· Tallies special food items per department procedure.
· Communicates patient care information, problems or potential problems to appropriate personnel (supervisors, managers, or dieticians).
· Maintains records such as meal count sheet, patient Kardex and VIP list.
· Keep accurate telephone logs and messages.
· Achieves 96-98% compliance on the Quality Assurance monitor and 96% accuracy for diet changes.
· Ensures menus are on trayline in a timely manner.
· Processes diet changes in an organized manner so that meal service is efficient.
· Takes personal responsibility to ensure the “Wet Floor” signs are visible.
· Ensures hallways and doors are not blocked by food and supply carts.
· Completes other duties as assigned
Cashier Responsibilities:
· Operates cash register, including collecting money, giving change, receipts and balancing for each meal.
· Serves visitors and employees courteously and efficiently.
· Explains menu and food items if necessary.
· Returns unused items to specified areas; properly stores cold leftover if you they are to be used for the next meal service.
· Checks menu of all items needed coming on duty; ensures that all food listed on menu ae available.
· Turns on steamtable when coming on duty, filling table with fresh water.
· Turns off all equipment when working late position.
· Stocks necessary condiments and sets up for days menu, i.e. sugar, ketchup, lemons, margarine, sour cream, milk, flatware, etc.
· Checks that proper holding temperatures are maintained, by taking temperatures prior and during meal service.
· Obtains proper utensils for service and is aware of portion sizes for each item.
· Stocks salad and desserts; checks for a variety and attractiveness daily.
· Prepares daily items for cafeteria, (i.e., tuna fish salad, assorted salad entrees, sandwiches).
· Serves cafeteria customers swiftly, does not allow customer back up.
· Handles money, when acting as cashier, according to Hospital’s Policies and Procedures.
· Fills out cash report completely and accurately after each meal.
· Cleans, sanitizes, stocks, fills the following equipment prior to meal service as needed.
· Promptly reports food shortages or potential food shortages to supervisor.
· Cleaning, sanitizing, and preparation of yogurt machine daily.
· Cleans all work areas, walls, equipment, storage areas, and station daily.
· Uses all necessary food service equipment as needed, using proper safety precautions and operation procedures (steam table, slicing machine, coffee machine, yogurt machine, popcorn maker, cash register, grill, deep fat fryer, hot dog cooker, ice tea, juice machine, toaster, microwave, fryer, and refrigerators).
· Records refrigerator temperatures daily. Uses approved techniques (department policies) in the handling and service of food items
What qualifications you will need:
- Other-Fingerprint Required
- High School Diploma or its equivalent, preferred.
One year of experience in healthcare food and nutrition services preferred and clerical experience preferred.
