The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is currently recruiting candidates with journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems to join the Building Maintenance and Services team! There is one (1) position open; however, the list established may also be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Both internal and external applicants will be considered. Applicants must be available to work all shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) 7 days a week - including holidays. To be considered for this position, applicants must indicate they are available for day, swing, and night shifts (all three), and must check the appropriate boxes under availability on the RTAA online application. Shift assignments are generally determined by seniority using a Shift Bid System and are for the full calendar year.
In addition, this position qualifies for a $1000 recruitment bonus paid in three installments at 3 months ($250) six months ($250), and one year ($500).
At the RTAA, the Building Maintenance and Services Division is a key member of the Facilities and Maintenance Department. Facilities HVAC Technician IVs report to a Facilities Supervisor and are responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of a variety of commercial/industrial air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment, and auxiliary equipment, including air conditioners, refrigeration units, computer-controlled energy systems, boilers, circulation pumps, absorption units, cooling towers and other commercial/industrial HVAC equipment and systems for RTAA buildings and facilities.
RTAA Facilities HVAC Technician IVs are also part of our larger RTAA customer service team. This team is dedicated to helping provide the public with a pleasant and safe experience while traveling through the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. All of RTAA's Facilities HVAC Technician IVs are expected to approach their work with a positive, helpful, customer service mindset.
The nature of the work requires a strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, equipment, and equipment, standard safety practices of the HVAC trade, and the ability to perform a full range of skilled HVAC maintenance and repair duties under minimal supervision.

Examples of Job Duties:
- Perform skilled, journey-level mechanical maintenance and repair work in conjunction with the installation, repair and alteration of air handlers, package units, air drying refrigeration units, computer control energy systems, pneumatic controls, boilers, circulation pumps, cooling towers and other commercial/industrial HVAC equipment and systems.
- Maintain HVAC equipment and systems by inspecting, cleaning, troubleshooting and repairing to component level. Replace: compressors, motors, belts, filters, fuses overloads and pressure activated controls. Must be proficient in brazing and soldering, 3 phase and single phase controls, rewire or modify systems as necessary to ensure efficient operations.
- Operate computerized energy management systems by setting time schedules, heat/cool settings, VFD settings and pump operation to ensure that building environments remain comfortable, and systems operate in a cost-efficient manner.
- Assist fellow technicians and maintenance workers in a broad scope of Airport repairs.
- Repair and maintain refrigeration units by inspecting, diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment, including electric motors, air circulation fans and blowers, Programmable Logic Controllers, condensing units, evaporators and expansion valves to keep systems functioning.
- Monitor and test chemical conditions in open and closed loops and cooling towers correcting improper levels by adjusting controllers or adding treatment chemicals.
- Participate in snow removal by keeping the landside roads, parking areas, ramps and walkways clear using snowplows, sweepers, blowers and hand shovels.
Entry Salary: $27.05 - $31.79 per hour, with opportunity for additional merit-based increases up to a range maximum of $40.85 per hour. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This is an hourly and overtime eligible position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: Graduation from High School or equivalent certification and completion of a recognized HVACR vocational program. An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Required Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, journey-level HVACR experience in a commercial/industrial setting, which must include hydronic heating and cooling systems, boilers, circulation pumps, package air conditioning units, gas fired heating units; AND two (2) years of full-time, centralized HVAC commercial/industrial plant operation, maintenance, and repair, which must include computerized building control/automation system experience.
Certification: A valid CFC certification is preferred at time of application.
Required Licensing: A valid driver's license is required at the time of application.

The Physical Demands of the job may include:
- Sufficient dexterity to enable regular use of hands and fingers to operate various types of HVAC tools and equipment.
- The ability to accurately identify color-coded cables and wires, in variable lighting conditions.
- The ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch down, stoop, crawl, twist, and climb.
- The ability to perform light to strenuous physical/manual labor as required.
- The ability to use safe lifting techniques to routinely lift/carry/push/pull 25-pound objects and occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
The working conditions may include:
- Performing work under various environmental conditions (within both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments) involving exposure to cold, heat, and inclement weather.
- Performing work at heights and/or within confined/cramped spaces.
- Performing work around moderate to high noise levels, vibrations, chemicals, dust, flammable materials, construction materials mechanical equipment, and electrical hazards.
- Incumbents shall be expected to wear appropriate (PPE) personal protective safety equipment including safety shoes, glasses/goggles, ear plugs, gloves and other safety gear as needed.
