Field Applications Engineer - Ventech Search Group
Detroit, MI 48201
About the Job
Our client is a European startup with $22 million in funding and some of the biggest names in automotive and aerospace on their client list.
We are building out their US team and are looking for their first Field Application Engineer in the US. This position will be based in the Detroit office and require 50%- 70% travel to the customer site for installs, troubleshooting, and training. The travel was referred to as hit-and-run travel, meaning no more than three days on-site.
The pay for this role is flexible, but we would like to stay in the $105k-$125k base range plus benefits and company stock plan.
If you are looking for a fast-paced career and embrace the startup culture, this might be your next move. Their product, which we will discuss in detail on our first phone call is cutting edge and changing the way robots work with people in the high-paced, high-stress manufacturing space, making assembly lines much more flexible and efficient.
Here are a few things we are looking for. You can call them MUST-HAVES or knock-out factors:
- Coding skills in Python (Advanced skills preferred). During the interview call with the CTO, you will be given a coding scenario and asked how you would handle it.
- Good project management skills – specifically in the data gathering side and taking the projects through final delivery. Projects are given to the FAE right after the sale, and this person is expected to manage the process through delivery.
- Robot Programming: Fanuc is preferred, but ABB or UR is okay
Project scope:
- Install vision systems (camera) onto the robots (retro-fit or new), train the staff, support on the programming with the end user or integrator
- 80% of their business right now is automotive
- 40% of time spent on qualifying use case, 30% preparing the proof of concept on the customer site, 20% on delivery, 10% at trade shows. As they get a bigger market share I the US, delivery will take up most of their time.
12 Month Vision for Success:
- They would want to have seen someone who ramped up and learned the product quickly so they understand how to pitch the product and present the product
- They would see success as someone who has worked and delivered a few products by themselves without much support in their first year. It’s important that you are systematic and can work fully independently with a high level of responsibility.
- You will have exceptional communication skills on the good and the bad with the customer and deliver realistic timelines.
Culture:
Nice and Welcoming. In Europe, they spend a lot of time together and eat lunch together. Because of this, everyone chooses to work in the office rather than remotely because they feel it’s more fun. They are looking for people who want to have fun and collaborate with their peers in a real-time environment.
Get it done attitude by adopting a proactive, problem-solving approach. Rather than saying, "I can't figure this out" or "I don't know how to do this," they appreciate when you take the initiative to learn, explore solutions, and try to make progress before/while seeking assistance.
