Summary: JH Kelly's Commercial Mechanical group is comprised of experienced project executives and next-generation project managers who partner with general contractors, developers, and facility owners to design, fabricate, install, and service HVAC and plumbing systems.
The Field Engineer plays a key role in supporting project planning, coordination, and execution from preconstruction to field installation. Responsibilities include managing schedules, budgets, and resources, and ensuring project specifications are met while resolving technical issues and overseeing daily operations. This role involves coordinating with clients, subcontractors, and team members to ensure project milestones are achieved, all while adhering to safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and possesses strong communication and problem-solving skills, thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Salary Range: $29-$45 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).
Key Responsibilities:
+ Learn, follow, and promote company safety protocols.
+ Schedule, verify, and coordinate the submittal processes. Ensure that components function as intended, are coordinated with associated components, and are furnished in accordance with contractual, subcontract, and purchase order criteria.
+ Verify and follow the submittal schedule through the approval process, ensuring that the fabrication schedule supports material need dates.
+ Monitor and manage vendors and OEMs to ensure project compliance.
+ When assigned, provide scheduling support to the team.
+ Clearly communicate scope, specifications, and Quality Assurance requirements to the Fab Shop.
+ Assist the Project Superintendent as needed.
+ Perform field engineering for construction convenience items, including calculations and design drafting when required.
+ Coordinate inspections by authorities having jurisdiction and third-party inspection agencies. Maintain all Quality Assurance documentation and accurate field engineering records.
+ Perform and/or monitor all project surveying and maintain project survey records. Prepare quantity reports to support the Project Superintendent. Coordinate details with all subcontractors.
+ Maintain shop and contract drawings in a current and organized condition.
+ Thoroughly review all drawings, submittals, samples, and shop drawings to ensure the final product meets contract requirements.
+ Track all drawings, submittals, shop drawings, and revisions using Document Control Procedures.
+ Maintain current logs and copies of subcontracts and revisions.
+ Maintain project controls to track and manage all change documents.
+ Take off quantities and prepare pricing for changes as directed.
+ Maintain as-built drawings and specifications throughout the project.
+ Assemble and maintain required system turnover documentation.
+ Perform quantity tracking and production analysis.
+ Assemble and develop work packages for fabrication and field installation processes. Monitor and update as required for compliance.
+ Perform additional tasks or projects as assigned.
Relationships:
+ Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the JH Kelly operating groups and teams, including shop and field craft personnel.
+ Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.
Experience / Qualifications:
+ Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, or Civil engineering degree and/or equivalent experience or education.
+ Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Construction Management, Mechanical and/or Civil estimating, or education.
+ Preferred: A solid theoretical knowledge of Project Management, Construction Management, Construction Contracts, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and/or Safety.
+ Fully proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam with intermediate skills in Excel.
+ Scheduling experience or education.
+ Pre-commissioning experience.
+ Proficient in reading P&IDs and Piping Isometrics.
+ Strong understanding of industrial piping and mechanical materials.
+ Must be open to traveling

Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for this role include the ability to transition frequently between an office and a construction field setting. In the office, the individual must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse, and communicating by telephone. In the field, the individual must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods on various surfaces, including uneven terrain, and climbing stairs as required. The role also necessitates the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl to view/inspect tight spaces, as well as occasionally lifting 40 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and communicating on-site. The individual must adhere to the site-specific dress code and comply with safety requirements by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Flexibility to travel between job sites and work outside regular business hours when necessary is also required.
