The focus of the position will be to execute project activities as
directed within UCCs Project Management and Contract Engineering (PMCE)
teams. Primary responsibilities will include technically supporting
field construction, startup, and commissioning activities within the
utility and industrial power plant and wastewater treatment markets,
acting in the role of field project engineer. The role will be based at
the site through the various phases from installation through acceptance
tests.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capabilities in collaborating
with others to perform engineering and field tasks within a team
environment. Work experience with a privately held company will be
beneficial.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Project Engineer will:
- Collaborate with field service, PMCE and key stakeholders to
understand project requirements.
- Act as the on-sites representative for the project engineering team.
- Play a critical role in ensuring that installation, startup, and
commissioning activities are completed on time, within budget, and
in accordance with UCC quality standards.
- Assist in resolving on-site issues and challenges as they arise and
help to drive the Request for Information (RFI) from the installing
contractors to a close.
- Implement and enforce onsite quality control measures for the
wastewater treatment processes.
- Conduct regular inspections/testing to ensure the efficiency and
effectiveness of the treatment systems.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the project team (including sub
vendors) to address any issues related to the treatment process as
they arise.
- Maintain accurate and up to date project documentation (red line
sets) to assist with final project documentation needed for project
closeout.
- Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders, including,
clients, and contractors.
- Develop procedures as needed to document the on-site testing
process.
- Prepare regular reports, including but not limited to progress
status reports, challenges, resolutions, and treatment
effectiveness.
- Promote a culture of safety among on-site personnel. Identify and
address potential safety hazards promptly.
- Demonstrate UCCs core values.
- All other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship:
- The Field Project Engineer directly reports to the Mechanical
Engineering Supervisor.
- While onsite the Field Project Engineer will report up to the UCC
site Construction Manager.
- This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Science in engineering is required (mechanical or
chemical)
- A minimum of 2 to 5 years of engineering experience in engineering;
power industry or industrial/utility wastewater environments
preferred.
- Previous experience in wastewater treatment projects, with a strong
understanding of treatment processes preferred.
- Broad experience covering contract execution disciplines with a
proven track record of successes.
- Professional Registration (PE License) is preferred.
- General business acumen
Characteristics and Skills:
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple
projects and deal with ambiguity and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to make decisions under pressure and solve problems
efficiently.

- Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD products preferred)
Essential Physical Abilities:
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk using a computer 60% of the time.
- Must be willing to travel 100% of the time to various work sites.
- Ability to accommodate varying work schedules.
- Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders.
- Ability to walk around power plants/job sites for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work standing all day.
- Ability to utilize full manual dexterity (i.e. sitting, squatting,
bending, kneeling, lifting, walking, manipulating tools with limbs
extended).
