Position Overview

The Field Service Specialist is responsible for performing concrete tests and monitoring the quality of our ready-mixed concrete. They also have a good understanding of the objectives of constituent material testing and the principles of operation of all our laboratory testing equipment. In addition,  Field Service Specialists will interact and establish rapport with current customers relating to concrete delivery and technical onsite corrective action.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Safety First Mentality; Abides by all safety rules and regulations. All unsafe practices and conditions will need to be reported promptly.
• Performs required ASTM tests on plastic concrete, which involves several tests on each sample, i.e., slump, air, unit weight, temperature, and yield.
• Following industry standards, cast concrete test specimens from batch plants or job sites, perform hardened concrete testing, and input all testing results in quality control software. 
• Performs aggregate sieve analysis and drafts reports regularly to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Maintains all equipment in good operational condition and ensures equipment is calibrated correctly.
• During production, coordinate concrete mix design adjustments with Plant Foreman/Batchmen.
• Provides quality customer service by answering questions and complaints in a timely and professional manner.  The candidate shall maintain professional relationships with customers.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology or Construction Management or comparable discipline or other related discipline and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• 1 year of experience in testing ready-mixed concrete
• Experience in the building materials/construction industry preferred.

Work Requirements

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background check.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Perform concrete tests and procedures per applicable ASTM standards.
• Perform routine laboratory testing.
• Maintain all concrete test results.
• Maintain concrete statistical data for each standard mix.
• Employ general knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities regarding hardened concrete.
• Coordinates communication between Departments.

• Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
• Climb: ascend/descend three-point entry into cab of equipment/vehicle.
• Lift: exertion of physical strength to move objects (50-70 lbs.) from one level to another.
• Carry: hold or rest weighted objects (50-70 lbs.) directly on hands, arms, shoulders, or back while walking from one location to another.
• Bend: flexion of the upper trunk forward while standing and knees extended, or knees flexed when sitting.
• Push/Pull: Exertion of force on or against an object (70 lbs.) to move it from one location to another.
