Summary/Objective
The Field Service Tech travels to Viking Engineering's customers to service, troubleshoot, install, or maintain industry-leading wood fastening machines. As the Field Service Technician, you will run equipment installations, scheduled maintenance, and maintenance assistance. All new Viking machines are installed by our Service Technicians who provide setup, calibration, hands-on operator training, and troubleshooting advice. Every day you utilize your mechanical and electrical knowledge and skills to give our customers the best service and keep up on all your tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
- The following work may be done while building a machine, installing, providing service, or providing Engineering tech support:
- Troubleshoot and assemble all areas of Viking's equipment using drawings, specifications, blueprints, and schematics including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical sub-assemblies and PLC controls.
- Help plan and document installation, service, repair, and assembly procedures. Follow written work instructions and documented specifications.
- Test equipment to ensure it is working properly.
- Make slight modifications and/or repairs to equipment; communicate to proper departments in a timely manner and in writing, any changes or modifications made to equipment.
- Dismantle equipment for replacement of parts and/or repair parts on the equipment. Relocate equipment to new locations as required.
- Installation of Viking's standard equipment offering equipment per schedule.
- Address customers in a professional manner on issues in a workable solution that create an ongoing working relationship with the customer.
- Provide telephone technical support and troubleshooting on standard parts and equipment offering for customers.
- Use photo and video technology to perform duties when appropriate.
- Train customer operators and maintenance people on basic operations, safety, and maintenance of all Viking equipment.
- Regularly demonstrate a high level of independent judgement and decision making

Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience in a related position
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- High mechanical aptitude, problem-solving and troubleshooting ability especially in electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and mechanical systems
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, manuals, blueprints, and schematics
- Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics preferred
Preferred Software Experience
- Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Emerson and B&R Programming Software

Work Environment
This job operates in an office/manufacturing environment. This role routinely travels to customer manufacturing plant locations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee regularly works around live voltage wiring. The noise level in the manufacturing area of Viking and in most customer locations is moderate to loud.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Location
This is a full-time non-exempt position. This position regularly requires overtime hours as needed and works in both the main Viking office location as well as various customer locations throughout the US and internationally.
Travel
Ability to travel - able to drive for extended periods of time and obtain a U.S. passport to travel internationally on occasion (75-100% travel on average is required).
